Iron Mountain of the United States acquired IO company, a provider of modular data center, with US $1.31 billion

This transaction has set a record for company acquisition in the field of data center service providers this year. In the same year, Digital Realty acquired DuPont Fabros Technology with US $4.95 billion, Peak 10 acquired ViaWest with US $1.67 billion, and BC Partners and Medina Capital acquired CenturyLink's data center portfolio with US $2.15 billion to establish a company called Cyxtera. In addition, Digital Bridge acquired Vantage Data Centers for more than $1 billion

Tieshan, whose main business is file management and storage, has been vigorously expanding its data center service business. The acquisition of IO company added four large data centers to its portfolio. Iron Mountain also acquired the data center provider Fortrust in October this year. In addition, in October, it acquired the data centers in London and Singapore of Credit Suisse outside the United States.

Once the acquisition of Credit Suisse and IO is completed, the total capacity of Tieshan's data center will reach more than 90 MW. The company said in a statement that another 26MW power capacity is under construction, and there is still room to increase 135MW in the future.

Iron Mountain plans to acquire the land and facilities owned by IO Company, including the data center park in Phoenix (38MW) and New Jersey (15MW), as well as the data center in Scottsdale (7MW) in the suburb of Phoenix and Miami burg (2MW) in Ohio.

IO Company is a managed data center provider and an engineering company. Its main business is to provide managed rental space in prefabricated modular data centers (similar to containers). Its internal design and installation are in huge warehouses. IO also developed its own data center management software to manage its hosting space and sell it as an independent software product.

In 2014, the management of IO Company decided to divide it into two independent entities: the hosting provider is called IO Company, and the technology is named Baselayer Company. As a BaseLayer customer, IO will continue to use the technology it provides.
