Ten principles for functional zoning of computer room

At present, the design structure and layout of many computer rooms are relatively backward, which will lead to insufficient systematicness, availability and scalability, and will be out of line with the trend of IT equipment rack, which not only has great security risks, but also seriously affects the function of the computer room.

The structure and layout of the data center computer room need to have an overall design concept. It is necessary to consider not only the current and future use, but also the convenience of operation and management, and also some special requirements of enterprises or institutions, including the consideration of unit image. What is the functional partition principle of the data center?

The functional zoning principles of the data center mainly include the following ten requirements:

1. Comply with the requirements of relevant regulations and standards, respect the industry habits of customers, and take safety, ease of use and maintainability as the main distinguishing principles.

2. It should be reasonably distributed, which not only reflects separation and independence, but also relative concentration, avoids mutual interference, and achieves the goal of coordination and unity, and is convenient for work.

3. The entrance and exit shall be set separately; The routes of people flow, logistics flow, maintenance flow and visit flow in each area should be arranged separately to avoid crossing as far as possible, so as to distinguish between inside and outside; The control center, telecommunications room and host machine room are restricted areas, and outsiders are strictly prohibited from entering and leaving; As an optional design, the main engine room can be connected with the visiting corridor for visitors to visit the machine room; The staff passage shall be easy for internal personnel to carry out operation and maintenance management; The physical channel shall be located in the non key area of the data center to reduce interference to other functional areas.

4. The equipment layout and configuration of the core production area of the data center should fully meet the capacity requirements of the current IT system equipment, while taking into account the requirements of IT system expansion, capacity increase and new technology application, and make space and capacity reservations for the installation and operation of new systems.

5. The machine room area is analyzed and designed from the perspective of power supply and cooling configuration. The machine room is divided into modular machine rooms with high, medium and low heat density as far as possible according to the heat generation zoning of the equipment, so as to facilitate targeted design, layout, operation and maintenance management of power supply and cooling equipment.

6. The overall design layout of IT equipment in the machine room should be comprehensively considered from the perspectives of refrigeration, floor bearing, power configuration, equipment type, wiring form, operation and maintenance, and system expansion; According to the type of air conditioner and cooling mode, determine the best place to place high-density server racks, storage array racks and other equipment with high heat density to heat dissipation; Racks and equipment shall not exceed the bearing capacity of the floor.

7. The whole function should be driven through a slope free channel, and the equipment and personnel flow in the machine room should be on the same plane.

8. The network machine room should be arranged according to the location of the shaft, which is the shortest distance between the network machine room and other machine rooms. The distance of wiring between equipment should also be considered. A reasonable distance can reduce the investment in wiring, improve the efficiency of wiring and communication, and more importantly, reduce the obstacles to air conditioning.

9. Consider the business system processing flow of enterprises or institutions, and arrange closely related application systems. Or place all servers of the same business system in a centralized manner to improve operation efficiency. However, it must be noted that different types of equipment associated with business application systems will affect the standardization of system layout.

10. In functional zoning, modular design is very important. Through this design, the computer room can be invested by stages, and can be flexibly adjusted for development needs. Modularization will also effectively improve the risk isolation capability of the data center.
