Hong Kong Telecom Launches the World's First Ultra High Capacity Submarine Cable to Connect Two Main Data Centers

Hong Kong Telecom announced the official launch of Ultra Express Link (UEL) cable, which is an ultra high-speed corridor with 2016 fiber cores and the world's first ultra high capacity submarine cable.

UEL connects the data center of Hong Kong Tseung Kwan O Industrial Zone (TKOIE) and Chai Wan. The submarine cable not only provides an additional path for the two main data center hubs for shunt transmission, but also has a length of only 2.76 km, making it the shortest submarine cable path and achieving 15 microseconds of ultra-low delay.

UEL, together with the existing extensive optical fiber infrastructure of Hong Kong Telecom, will meet the growing demand of data center operators for high-speed and high-capacity transmission, and help promote the development of Tseung Kwan O Industrial Village into one of the Asian data center hubs.
