The 3000 square meter data center supports the demand for submarine optical cables in the South Atlantic

Core tips: A 3000 square meter data center will be built in the northeast of Brazil to support the demand of Brazil Angola submarine optical cable.

China IDC Circle reported on July 26 that a 3000 square meter data center will be built in northeastern Brazil to support the demand for Brazil Angola submarine optical cables.

This data center will serve the South Atlantic Submarine Optical Cable System Project (SACS), which will be jointly created by the cooperation between Fortaleza of Brazil and Angola Telecom, an African telecom giant.

The capacity of the South Atlantic submarine optical cable is at least 40Tbps, which is expected to be put into commercial operation in the first quarter of 2017. This will become the first undersea interconnection connecting Africa and South America.

At present, as the European location closest to Africa in Brazil, Fortaleza has seven submarine optical cables.

In addition to the South Atlantic submarine optical cable, Angola Cable also participates in the project as one of the shareholders of Monet submarine optical cable. Monet submarine optical cable connects Fortaleza and Santos in southeast Brazil to Boca Raton, Florida, USA. The submarine cable has a total length of 10556km, 6 sets of optical fiber pairs, and the design capacity of the system is 64Tbps, which is expected to be completed by the end of 2016.

Today, the Atlantis II submarine optical cable connecting Brazil and Europe is aging and has only limited capacity. Atlantis II submarine optical cable is almost only used as a telephone interconnection. In addition, Brazil has four other submarine cables, each connected to the United States.
