How to use cloud computing to reduce operating expenses

Can cloud computing really reduce operating costs? Tengyou Technology believes that using this new resource in practice is much more complicated than we expected.

Three kinds of storage services "optional" selection

Cloud service providers provide three-level access services based on customers' access to data, and provide different levels of storage charging modes. The first is the standard storage service, which has the highest cost, but can meet the needs of users for frequent access; The second is less accessible modes; The third is to access the model infrequently. Users want to save, but almost do not need to access data. Some users use the most expensive storage services for all data, but rarely access most data, so they pay too much upfront fees; Some companies need to access data frequently and use lower service costs. Finally, they need data. The cost of paying for this data is ridiculously high.

Cloud service providers are happy to provide any of these three levels, because if they do not seriously consider the service level required for specific data, they can make money.

Insufficient configuration

Configuration is too common for many applications. Administrators often overestimate the needs of enterprises in applications, and then cloud service providers maximize the provision of virtual servers. The result will be high costs, which will be added up quietly. Although the number of servers can be reduced, it is usually impossible to find out the need for more servers and more suitable servers immediately. Before that, the company will have too many resources to mine resources.

Compared with over configuration, configuration defects are more likely to be found and solved, because it usually means that the service performance is unacceptable. Although it is easier to find outdated cloud services, it is more difficult to propose the task of allocating a reasonable amount of resources for business operations.

Free cloud services without additional conditions are "eye-catching", and equipment costs lead to high costs

It is understood that many cloud providers tend to provide "free" cloud services for potential enterprise customers, even for unauthorized IT use. But beyond certain limits, free service will become a billing service. If some free cloud services are not specified within the validity period, administrators or business users usually do not realize that they have exceeded the scope of free services provided.

Some cloud service providers have a highlight in providing a series of virtual networks and services. Server instances are selected by customers and "leased" as virtual devices. Load balancing system, VPN concentrator, database and other resources have been preloaded and can be enabled immediately. But unless you know that these devices are used more frequently, or it may be difficult to choose case size or payment mode. You can order a large number of equipment configurations, and you can also charge according to data rate, storage size, hours or annual software cost and other factors. In the long run, the equipment will lead to high costs.

Enter the dilemma of "online free, offline charging"

With users' demand for IT, the original cloud service provider may not be able to meet their demand. If users try to migrate from one cloud service provider to another, they will soon realize that the original free migration to the cloud now requires a lot of money for all data to go back.

It is not timely to start troubleshooting after ignoring

Too many operation and maintenance personnel will bring a lot of expenses to the enterprise. They will eventually appear on the site to enable the server instance, which will never be used after use. Sometimes cloud administrators cannot communicate with each other and do not perform system reviews from time to time. The results of server instances are scattered, but this is what cloud service providers like to see most. It costs no money for providers to start idle virtual machines. If the server is idle for a week, a month or even a year, the provider can still charge you a large fee.

When choosing cloud service providers, many enterprise users of internal employees often lack a comprehensive understanding of the cloud and rush to cooperate with service providers. The communication process is poor and popular. The root cause of delay in discovering and eliminating complex technical problems is completely foreseeable.

Troubleshooting is a basic process, which only requires low cost, but is often ignored. As a result, troubleshooting becomes more complex and time-consuming, and ultimately becomes very expensive for server leasing and server hosting costs. Therefore, when users choose and use cloud services, they should conduct a "thorough investigation": communication, sorting and review, and clarify that they may not know the hidden costs, which is a crucial link. Users can only fully control these factors, and some links will obviously generate hidden costs, which can really reduce operating costs.
