9 New Routines of Telecom Fraud

  

Today's telecom fraud is not just a simple trick like sending a text message to notify you of winning a prize, or a "leader" calling you to go to the office. Recently, the media reviewed nine new ways of telecom fraud, helping consumers to clear their eyes and see through the fraud. The most important thing is that today, when personal information leakage is rampant, there must be a root in our hearts - there is no free lunch.

Routine 1: "Your account has abnormal changes in funds"

The fraudster first stole the victim's online banking login account and password, and created the illusion of capital outflow on the bank card through such operations as purchasing precious metal, current to fixed term, etc. Then the fake customer service called to confirm whether the transaction was operated by the customer himself, and agreed to give the user a refund to cheat the user's trust. The fraudster will create the illusion that the user account has returned funds through the internal fund transaction of the account again. However, due to the problem of transaction fees, the refund amount is generally smaller than the previous internal transaction amount of the account. Next, the fraudster will use the victim's online bank to transfer money, or open a quick payment operation, and select the SMS verification code to verify, so that the victim's mobile phone will receive a verification code SMS. Finally, the fraudster asked the victim to provide the verification code received by his mobile phone immediately on the grounds of a limited time refund. Once the victim provided the SMS verification code to the other party, the other party would win.

How to break: almost seamless. The simplest and most effective way is to immediately call the bank's official customer service phone number for verification. Don't trust any active incoming call that claims to be customer service.

Routine 2: "You are suspected of breaking the law"

"You are suspected of money laundering", "you are suspected of illegal fund raising", "you need to bear criminal responsibility for credit overdraft", these are the reasons for pretending to be a public security law to commit fraud. This technique is not new, but because it is extremely threatening, people who do not know about this kind of fraud are easy to be fooled. Nowadays, many fraudsters disguise themselves as official customer service phone numbers through number changing software, but if the victim really dials back, they can generally detect the fraud. There was even an "upgraded version": the fraudster guided the user to place an order by phone and mail it in the form of cash on delivery on the grounds of giving free goods. If the user refused to sign for express delivery or return the goods, the fraudster would threaten and intimidate the user with the "identity" of the public security, procuratorial and law enforcement staff and commit fraud.

How to break it: Don't trust the phone calls from strangers. If someone says he is suspected of committing a crime, he should first call 110 for verification. Or ask your relatives and friends around you. Generally, you can quickly see through the fraud.

Routine 3: "Your flight ×× has been cancelled"

Booking air tickets by mobile phone has become the outlet of online fraud. The fraudster lied about ticket change, ticket refund and other reasons to guide people into phishing websites. According to Tencent's Big Data Report on Anti Telecom Network Fraud in the Second Quarter of 2016, this type of fraud reached 44%, becoming the mainstream of online fraud. The fraudster can accurately tell the name and flight information of the victim, and often swindle in the name of obtaining compensation for ticket change.

How to break it: The ticket return and change business is handled through the website, telephone and service hall of the airlines, ticket agents and other formal channels. Don't trust any phone calls or text messages, even if they are completely consistent with your information.

Routine 4: "You can apply for a refund if the goods you purchased are out of stock"

The fraudster first fully grasped the online shopping information of the victim, and obtained the trust of the victim by accurately describing the victim's shopping information, and then obtained the victim's bank card number, password and SMS verification code. Sometimes the fraudsters use the phone directly to obtain relevant information, and sometimes they ask the victim to open the phishing website and fill in relevant information manually. When the bank card number, password and verification code are disclosed at the same time, the fraudster successfully transfers the money from the victim's online bank account.

How to break it: In case of abnormal commodity transactions, out of stock and other situations, you should first consult the official customer service phone of the shopping website, and do not easily trust those who call in actively and claim to be customer service personnel. The online shopping account and payment account should have separate passwords, and the passwords should be complex enough to be changed regularly.

Routine 5 "Recommend Ten Bull Stocks to You"

This kind of deception usually takes the name of learning stock knowledge and recommending stocks to collect deposits or margins from users, which is especially effective for those new shareholders who are eager to succeed. In fact, regular securities companies generally do not provide paid stock recommendation services to shareholders, let alone collect deposits or margins from users in this name. They usually send photos or pictures of the so-called company's business license, industrial and commercial certificate or organization code certificate, which can be verified by calling the customer service telephone of the securities company.

How to break: Don't trust any stock recommendation or stock selection information, no matter whether it comes from websites QQ、 SMS or phone call. It can be verified by calling back the official customer service telephone.

Routine 6 "RMB 699 Free Apple Phone"

In a new type of fraud case recently announced by the Hunan police, a fraud gang sent fake, damaged mobile phones or mobile phone molds to victims for fraud in the name of "charging 699 yuan of personal income tax and giving away Apple 6S mobile phones and 700 yuan of phone cards for free". In two months, hundreds of people were swindled, and the amount of fraud was hundreds of thousands of yuan. How to break: You can't cheat in the name of seemingly legal promotion, and you can't take chances.

Routine 7: "Please get the newborn subsidy in time"

Criminals cheat on the ground of receiving newborn subsidies. Because they can tell the details of the victims, the deceived people believe them. After obtaining the victim's bank account, the fraudster usually requires the victim to operate at the ATM and enter the English operation interface according to the "guidance" of the other party. Because the victims can't understand the English prompts on the ATM, they often regard the transfer procedure as the input verification code, and finally fall for the trap.

How to break: Do not trust such phone calls or SMS messages, let alone operate them on ATM machines.

Routine 8: Supplement and change mobile phone card

The routine of the recent fraud is to bombard the mobile phone with hundreds of spam messages and harassing calls to cover up the reminder messages sent by 10086 customer service to the mobile phone number; Then, take a temporary ID card with the victim's information and go to the business hall to apply for a mobile phone card on the spot, making the mobile phone card of the owner passively invalid; Finally, change the customer service password and bank card password of the mobile phone, and steal the balance of the bank card bound to the mobile phone APP through the SMS verification code.

How to break: Common website passwords and customer service passwords should be different from bank passwords and other key business login passwords, and should be modified regularly; For links sent by various numbers, do not click at will. If you receive a large number of harassing calls or text messages, do not turn off the phone, use the mobile phone security software to shield the harassing numbers, and immediately remove the bank card binding; When using public Wifi, try not to log in to the banking APP on your mobile phone or use your mobile phone to transfer money.

Routine 9: "Junior is pregnant and needs money for abortion"

This is a type of fraud that has been active for a long time. But recently, a liar who "is pregnant and needs money for abortion" called more than 80 elderly people. The fraudster makes full use of the characteristics of the elderly who love their children to entice the victim to transfer money. This is a relatively new means, and it is the fraudster's constant "renovation" and "improvement" in deception. How to break it: Don't trust the phone calls from strangers, especially in urgent need of money.
