How to build a micro module data center that can adapt to the "cloud"

The rapid development of information and communication technology is driving the upgrading of data center industry. At present, big data, cloud computing, Internet of Things and other technologies are rising rapidly. As an important carrier of information and an important cornerstone of Internet development, data centers are growing in size. In particular, cloud computing applications are constantly landing in the world, which puts forward higher requirements for the development of data centers. Green, energy-saving, modularization and intensification are becoming an important direction for the development of data centers. For telecom operators, Internet manufacturers and other data center builders and operators, how to build a flexible, flexible, easy to deploy, low-cost, green and energy-saving data center for cloud computing applications has become an important topic.

Data center is an important infrastructure of cloud computing. At present, with the rapid development of cloud computing and big data, the development of data centers also presents a new trend. While the level of green and energy-saving is constantly improving, the data center is also evolving towards centralization, large-scale and specialization. The micro modular data center, with many advantages such as easy deployment, low cost and predictability, is being favored by telecom operators and Internet manufacturers. At present, the deployment of micro module data centers in China is rapidly increasing. How to further promote the development of micro module data centers to meet the development needs of cloud computing, and how to build data centers as easily as "building blocks" in the future, has become the focus of industry exploration.

In the cloud computing era, the micro module data center has significant advantages

The micro module data center system is an integrated, productized, modularized and standardized cabinet system. It is a comprehensive product solution that integrates the rack, air conditioning, fire protection, wiring, power distribution, monitoring, lighting and other systems of the traditional computer room into an integrated system. It has obvious advantages such as rapidity, flexibility, simplicity and predictability. It is an independent operation unit based on several racks, including refrigeration module, power supply and distribution module, backup power supply, network, wiring, monitoring, fire protection, etc. All components of the module can be prefabricated in the factory, and can be easily disassembled and quickly assembled to achieve rapid and flexible deployment of the system, which can not only significantly reduce the construction cost, but also significantly shorten the construction cycle of the data center.

With the development of data centers, the problems of traditional computer rooms have become prominent, and more intensive, green and energy-saving micro module data centers are favored. In general, traditional data centers have the following problems:

1. Large investment, slow effect and poor scalability. The design capacity of the traditional data center infrastructure is in place in one step, but the IT load is increasing year by year, and the data center has a huge one-time investment; A large amount of investment cannot produce benefits for many years; More importantly, the traditional computer room has poor scalability.

2. Construction is disconnected from business. The construction period of traditional data centers is long, which can not keep up with the business development speed. The construction time of computer rooms ranges from half a year to two years.

3. High energy consumption. The traditional machine room is characterized by high energy consumption, low energy utilization rate, room level refrigeration, and a large number of invalid space wasting cooling capacity; Short circuit of cold flow reduces refrigeration efficiency; The PUE value of most domestic data centers is above 2.6.

4. The utilization rate of the computer room is low. The calculation capacity of unit building area is limited, and the utilization rate of infrastructure investment is not high; Low power capacity of the cabinet makes it impossible to place high-density servers; Single cabinet power of traditional data center is less than 2kW; It is difficult to manage assets. Counting tens of thousands of IT assets is a problem, not to mention the location of equipment; Manual inventory of assets is costly, inefficient and error prone.

5. IT equipment idling. After a period of operation, there are a large number of ghost (idle) servers in the traditional data center, and the number can reach more than 15%. Waste energy and machine room capacity.

6. It is difficult to deploy or change equipment, and the design capacity is wasted. One time scale deployment or change, and a large amount of manpower is spent in advance to determine the scheme; Incorrect deployment or change may cause accidents; Non intelligent device deployment leads to waste of design capacity.

Compared with the traditional computer room, the micro module data center has three significant characteristics: simplicity, predictability, and energy saving. At the same time, it can significantly reduce the total cost of ownership (TCO), be easy to deploy, and quickly respond to user needs (see the table above).

1. Simple. After pre design and commissioning in the factory, the modular structure can be simply deployed on site, and the required construction scale and complexity are small. Due to the reserved power supply and distribution interface, refrigeration interface, network interface, etc., plug and play can be achieved. This pre production, standardization, and unified appearance are convenient for customers to purchase, deploy, and debug.

2. Predictable. The modular structure can strengthen the predictability of data center construction and greatly reduce the risk in data center construction. As the modular structure is a pre designed, pre tested and pre installed system, which must be factory verified in advance and pre commissioned to its best performance, it has good quality assurance, and the delivery period is also very short (generally 7-8 weeks).

3. Energy saving. The PUE value of the traditional data center is generally above 2.0, while the PUE value of the modular data center can reach below 1.8 (the water cooling mode can reach below 1.5). Compared with the traditional data center, the micro module data center can save more than 20% of the electricity cost every year.
