Analysis on Energy Saving Methods of Air Conditioning in Computer Room

  

Energy shortage is a very serious problem facing the world. Energy conservation has become the only way to develop the current data center. In recent years, with the rapid development of new technologies such as the Internet, the construction of data centers has been carried out vigorously. According to the latest report of the Natural Resources Conservation Commission, at present, the energy consumption of the data center has accounted for an astonishing 10% of the total global energy consumption. For enterprises, the data center electricity charge has become a big expense, which has greatly eroded the operating profits of enterprises. Data shows that China Unicom's operating revenue in 2012 was 40.7 billion US dollars, and its profit was only 1.2 billion US dollars, but its electricity expense was as high as 1.7 billion US dollars.

There are many power consuming devices in the data center. Today, we will discuss the energy-saving methods of the air conditioner in the computer room. Air conditioning refrigeration system is generally composed of compressor, condenser, expansion valve and evaporator. Its working principle is: the refrigerant boils under pressure and temperature until it is lower than the temperature of the cooled object or fluid. Then, use the compressor to continuously suck the steam generated in the evaporator, compress it to the condensation pressure, and then send it to the condenser, where it is cooled into liquid. The heat generated during the cooling of the refrigerator will be transferred to the cooling medium, and the condensed liquid will enter the evaporator through the expansion valve. In this process, the evaporator is a device that outputs cooling capacity. The refrigerant absorbs the heat of the cooled object in the evaporator to achieve the refrigeration purpose. After understanding the refrigeration process of the air conditioning system, we can find the adjustable point from this mechanism, and finally achieve the effect of energy saving.

1. For refrigeration equipment

General air conditioning system is designed according to "maximum load plus 20-50% reserved load"; In actual operation, the air conditioning system does not reach the full load state, and the system has great redundancy; Therefore, the air conditioning system needs:

(1) Reduce unnecessary redundant air conditioning load;

(2) Reduce the supply of invalid energy for invalid use;

(3) Effectively use the cooling capacity of natural fresh air.

2. Simple refrigeration setting of air conditioning system

(1) Increase the temperature setting value of the refrigeration system. (The set point shall not be lower than the value required to maintain the inlet air temperature of the equipment.)

(2) Set the return air temperature properly.

(3) Change the 7 × 24 hours non-stop operation mode of air conditioner to intermittent operation mode;

(4) Strengthen the sealing performance of the machine room, and reasonably use the curtains of the machine room for temperature adjustment in summer (empirical data shows that the curtains can usually have the temperature adjustment ability of about 10 ℃);

(5) Special humidification/dehumidification equipment can be considered in the machine room with high energy consumption of humidification/dehumidification;

3. Some tips

(1) Properly increase the temperature of the air conditioner without affecting the cooling effect;

(2) Set the low temperature shutdown function, because the air conditioner will also consume about 50W power every hour when the compressor is not working. Turn off the machine at the right time, which not only saves electric energy, but also extends the service life of the air conditioner.

(3) The air conditioner and the fresh air system should be linked. The machine room mainly depends on the air conditioner to maintain the internal temperature. In winter or at night, the temperature difference between the indoor and outdoor base stations should be used to introduce the cold air outside the machine room, and at the same time, the heat in the machine room should be dissipated, so that the temperature in the machine room can be reduced and the air conditioning power can be saved. That is, stop the cooling of the air conditioner at a certain temperature and start the fresh air system.
