Which works well, Debian or Ubuntu? Characteristics and comparative differences between the two

As CentOS announced that it would stop maintenance and update, many of our friends began to transfer Linux images to Debian and ubuntu. In fact, Lao Zuo used to like CentOS, but many foreign technical documents are Debian and ubuntu. In fact, there are more ubuntu, so I moved to these two images a few years ago. Debian and Ubuntu are two high-profile options. They all provide a stable and reliable platform, but there are still some key differences between them.

First, the characteristics of Debian image

1. Community support

Debian is a completely community driven open source project with a large developer community, providing extensive support and documentation resources.

2. Stability

Debian takes stability as its main goal. The update speed of released versions is relatively slow, but it attaches great importance to the stability and compatibility of software packages.

3. Software package selection

Debian warehouse contains a large number of software packages, covering various applications and tools, as well as supporting multiple architectures.

4. Free and open source

Debian adheres to the principle of free software, emphasizing the use of free software and open standards.

Second, the characteristics of Ubuntu images

1. User friendliness

Ubuntu is committed to providing a user-friendly operating experience, focusing on a simple and easy-to-use graphical interface and built-in utilities.

2. Update frequency

The update cycle of Ubuntu is relatively short. A new version is released every six months, and long-term support (LTS) versions are provided to provide users with updated functions and fixed security vulnerabilities.

3. Community and business support

In addition to community support for Ubuntu, Canonical, a commercial company, provides professional support and services.

4. Software package management

Ubuntu uses Debian based APT software package management system, has its own software warehouse, and provides an easy-to-use software center for application installation and management.

Third, the difference between Debian and Ubuntu

1. Release cycle

Debian has a relatively long release cycle, while Ubuntu uses a more frequent half year release mode.

2. Preinstalled software

Ubuntu usually preloads some commonly used software and tools to provide a more convenient user experience, while Debian generally provides a more pure basic operating system.

3. Security Update

In addition to releasing new versions, Ubuntu also provides long-term support (LTS) versions to provide users with long-term security updates and maintenance. Debian also has a similar stable branch, but there is no official long-term support version.

For both Debian and ubuntu images, there are more choices. Personally, I prefer ubuntu, because many reference tutorials are from ubuntu. You can choose which one according to your experience. Both commands are the same.
