107 championship rings, more than 400 all-star entries, nearly 1 million points! This is the wonderful performance made by the top 50 NBA stars in history. They were jointly selected by the "Blue Ribbon" team composed of some media, former players and coaches, some current and former general managers, and some relevant team managers. On October 29, 1996, David Stern, then the chairman of the NBA, finally announced their list in New York.

In order to celebrate the birth of the 50 superstars, Stern also held a special ceremony for this purpose. Among the guests invited to the ceremony were four legendary superstars, Wilt Chamberlain, Julius Owen, Bill Russell and George McCann.

The list was finally released at the Hyatt Regency Hotel, the predecessor of which was the former Brigadier General's Hotel. On June 6, 1946, the NBA also signed the first league charter in this hotel.

At that time, in the voting, all team members only needed to select the 50 greatest players in NBA history in their minds, ranking them in no particular order, and voters did not need to rank their choices. In addition, former NBA players were not allowed to vote for themselves in the voting process.
