Shanghai: Three guys successfully donated hematopoietic stem cells on the same day

China News Network, Shanghai, October 17 (Reporter Chen Jing) On October 17, three handsome young men donated hematopoietic stem cells in Huashan Hospital (China Red Cross Hospital) and the First People's Hospital (Shanghai Red Cross Hospital), becoming the 598th, 599th and 600th donors in Shanghai. This is the first time that Shanghai has completed three donations on the same day.

On the same day, about 30 staff members of the First People's Hospital who were newly recruited in 2023 registered at the donation site to join the China Hematopoietic Stem Cell Donor Database (China Bone Marrow Database). According to the Shanghai Red Cross Society, by the first ten days of October 2023, the Chinese Bone Marrow Bank will have a total capacity of 3.28 million people, provide human leukocyte antigen (HLA) matching retrieval services for more than 117000 patients with blood diseases, and more than 16000 non blood hematopoietic stem cell donations. Among them, there are more than 170000 volunteers from all walks of life in the Shanghai Branch of China Bone Marrow Bank.

It is reported that the three donors, Li Zhufeng, Pan Deng and Li Xin, respectively from Songjiang District, Jinshan District and Minhang District, are engaged in different jobs and have different personalities. However, they have a common wish - to donate hematopoietic stem cells and pass on the hope of life.

Li Zhufeng is a grid supervisor in the Urban Transport Center of Sheshan Town, Songjiang District. Since he went to university, he has participated in voluntary blood donation for many times, and has achieved a total of 1200ml whole blood donation so far. It was in this process that he learned about the donation of hematopoietic stem cells, and in 2021, he signed up to join the Chinese Bone Marrow Bank, starting the waiting for "medullary margin".

Pan Deng's mother was a Red Cross cadre in Tinglin Town, Jinshan District. Since middle school, Pan has always been a volunteer with his mother, enthusiastic about various public welfare activities. Under the influence of his mother, in August 2021, he joined the China Bone Marrow Bank in a hematopoietic stem cell volunteer warehousing activity. After passing the high-resolution test and comprehensive physical examination, on September 25, 2023, Xiao Pan solemnly signed his name on the consent form for donating hematopoietic stem cells. He said: "Jinshan has a tradition of 'good people in Jinshan'. I have done what I should do. I hope more young people will join in and more patients will be saved."

Li Xin joined the China Bone Marrow Bank when he was studying in a foreign university. He said: "I thought there would be no news after ten years, but I was excited to be matched now." Now, Xiao Li works in a network technology company in Shanghai. In life, he is a big boy who loves sunshine. He likes outdoor sports such as travel, hiking, skydiving, diving and so on. The energetic young man was ready for donation. He said: "Donation is not harmful to health, let alone saving people. I just have one idea - let him (her) in the distance enjoy nature, sunshine and beauty like me." (End)
