The Windows 8 Upgrade Assistant has four main functions:
——The Windows 8 Upgrade Assistant can scan your hardware, apps, and connected devices to see if they are suitable for Windows 8, make sure that all peripheral devices (such as printers and monitors) that need to be used on your PC are connected to your PC and enable them before running the Upgrade Assistant.
The Upgrade Assistant will check your computer hardware to see if it meets Windows 8 system requirements for installation on your computer, including CPU speed, PAE, NX, SSE2 and other processor functions, as well as RAM size and hard disk capacity. It also checks the compatibility of the apps and devices you currently have installed.
——The Windows 8 Upgrade Assistant will provide a compatibility report.
Apps and devices for Windows 7 are usually also available for Windows 8, but in some cases, you may need to update the product, or you may need to uninstall and reinstall the product after the upgrade. The compatibility report lists the apps and devices that can be used in Windows 8, the apps and devices that may not be used, and what you can do to restore their use after the upgrade. If some of your apps or devices are not listed, it may be because we do not have the compatibility information of the product. For more information about specific products, see the Windows Compatibility Center or consult the product manufacturer.
You can save or print the compatibility report for future use. You will be able to find the report on the desktop after the upgrade unless you select the "Do not keep any" option during the upgrade. For more information, see Using your apps and devices in Windows 8.
——The Windows 8 Upgrade Assistant will check if your PC supports specific Windows 8 features.
In particular: Windows Store, Docking, Secure Launch and Multi Touch. If your PC does not support one or more of these features, you will see a warning. You can still install Windows 8, but certain features will not be available.
——The Windows 8 Upgrade Assistant provides options to purchase, download, and install Windows 8.
If your PC is ready, the Upgrade Assistant will advise you which version to buy and guide you through the steps of upgrading.
