Guangzhou Police Destroy Gangs Selling Counterfeit Drugs and Seize More Than 4 Million Counterfeit Drugs

The police in Guangzhou seized a case worth more than 4 million yuan of counterfeit precious Chinese medicinal materials, and the suspect Cai has been detained

The actual wholesale price of each Angong Niuhuang Pill that counterfeits a famous brand is about 30 yuan, but it is sold at a regular price of more than 300 yuan in the market.

The Guangzhou police informed the media yesterday that they had recently smashed a gang selling fake medicines and seized a large number of valuable Chinese medicinal materials, such as fake donkey hide gelatin and Angong Niuhuang pills, worth more than 4 million yuan.

Recently, the Food and Drug Crime Investigation Brigade of Zengcheng Public Security Bureau received a report from the public that a drugstore in Licheng Street sold fake drugs, and he felt unwell after taking the donkey hide gelatin purchased in the drugstore. After learning the clues, Zengcheng police sampled a famous brand of donkey hide gelatin sold by the drugstore for inspection, and the city's Food and Drug Administration determined that the above products were fake drugs without any donkey hide gelatin ingredients according to law.

Accordingly, the police immediately took control of the drugstore owner, Mr. Huang, and detained a batch of fake donkey hide gelatin in the store. After interrogation, Mr. Huang confessed that he still sold the fake donkey hide gelatin to the outside world, knowing that the source of the fake donkey hide gelatin was unknown.

On November 5 last year, the police arrested Xie, who was selling fake donkey hide gelatin to Huang. During the interrogation, the police found that a gang selling fake drugs was active in a Chinese herbal medicine wholesale market in Liwan District, Guangzhou. The gang bought cowhide at a low price from other places, and then concocted fake and precious Chinese medicinal materials. Under the cover of regular wholesale outlets, they sold them to pharmacies in the urban area of Guangzhou and the surrounding areas, making huge profits through price differences.

On December 7 last year, the police of the special task force arrested five suspects, including Cai and Liu, who were suspected of producing and selling counterfeit drugs near a Chinese herbal medicine wholesale market in Liwan District, and seized 45 cases of donkey hide gelatin counterfeiting two well-known brands on the spot (40 cases each). The suspects Cai and Liu explained that they had purchased fake donkey hide gelatin of the above two brands at low prices from other places since May and June 2014, and then sold bulk goods near the wholesale market of traditional Chinese medicine in Liwan District.

At present, Cai and other suspects have been detained, and the case is under further investigation and pursuit.
