Consumer goods industry accelerates digital transformation

At the first conference on digital transformation of consumer goods industry and high-quality development of industrial Internet held recently, Wang Xiaoyang, deputy director of the Consumer Goods Industry Department of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, said that we should speed up the digital transformation of consumer goods industry based on the needs of industrial characteristics. The consumer goods industry covers such fields as people's "food, clothing, housing, transportation, education, health care, entertainment, travel and beauty". It is China's traditional competitive industry and important livelihood industry, and also the material foundation to meet the people's growing needs for a better life. At present, the digital economy is becoming the key force to restructure the global factor resources, reshape the global economic structure and change the global competition pattern. The consumer goods industry should seize the digital opportunities and actively build new advantages for development.

The "three grades" action has achieved remarkable results

In recent years, the consumer goods industry has continued to promote the digital and intelligent transformation, and the digital level of R&D, design and production manufacturing has steadily improved. Major breakthroughs have been made in key technologies of intelligent manufacturing in key fields such as household appliances, textiles and clothing, and consumer electronics. Mass customization and network collaborative manufacturing have continued to be promoted, The pilot demonstration project of intelligent manufacturing basically covers the whole industrial chain of the consumer goods industry.

"Taking light industry as an example, the penetration rate of digital R&D and design tools in light industry enterprises nationwide is 77.1%, and the penetration rate of industrial e-commerce is 69.1%, 2.0 and 3.2 percentage points higher than the average level of the manufacturing industry, respectively." Wang Xiaoyang said.

Guo Yongxin, secretary-general of the China Light Industry Federation, introduced that the proportion of intelligent production in China's light industry reached 12.2%, 5.6 percentage points higher than the average level of the manufacturing industry. In 2022, 15 light industry enterprises will be selected as national intelligent manufacturing pilot demonstration plants, and 35 will be selected as intelligent manufacturing excellent scenes. At present, 19 light industry factories have become the lighthouse factories of the world.

Digitalization has helped "three products" action and led consumption upgrading to achieve remarkable results. In July 2022, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and other five departments jointly released the "Three Products" Action Plan for Digitalization in Consumer Goods Industry (2022-2025), which proposed that by 2025, the integration and application capability of digital technology in consumer goods industry will be significantly enhanced, and a batch of new, famous and high-quality products will be cultivated. The variety leadership, quality competitiveness and brand influence will continue to improve.

At present, in terms of increasing varieties, the consumer goods industry has launched more innovative products to comply with the trend of consumption upgrading by giving full play to the role of digital technology in accurately mining consumer demand, improving the level of R&D and design, and innovating new modes of collaborative manufacturing; In terms of quality improvement, the application of key digital technologies and core equipment such as industrial APP, automatic control and digital traceability has been further improved. Several enterprises and projects have been selected as national intelligent manufacturing pilot demonstration enterprises and projects, and the intelligent supply chain management and quality control capabilities of key industries have been continuously enhanced; In terms of brand creation, digital technology is used to constantly innovate production services and business models, tap the connotation of brand cultural values, create immersive, experiential and interactive consumption scenarios, and achieve global marketing through online and offline integration, so that brand strength and influence are steadily improved.

The Report on the Preparation of Key Digital Standards in the Field of Consumer Goods released at the conference proposed that digital standards are the technical support for enterprises in the consumer goods industry to implement the "three products" strategy and promote social development, and play a fundamental and leading role in the high-quality development of enterprises.

It is reported that China Light Industry Information Center and other units will actively apply for digital standard projects to relevant ministries and commissions of the country, and work together with key enterprises in the industry to become the pioneers and industry leaders of digital standards by developing and implementing standards, raising the bottom line, and creating brands.

Make policies based on characteristics and industry

"The industrial volume of consumer goods is large and covers a wide range, involving more than 90 sub categories of 25 major categories of the national economy. The characteristics and digital needs of each sub industry are different. It is necessary to strengthen the sorting and promotion of cases of typical digital scenarios, such as personalized customization in the household industry, quality traceability in the food industry, and digital design in the textile and clothing industry." Wang Xiaoyang said.

This conference released 218 advanced demonstration cases of digital transformation of consumer goods industry in 2023. The case covers more than 50 industries such as household appliances, furniture, lighting, hardware, etc., involving the increase of variety, quality, brand creation, green development, supply chain innovation, enterprise going to sea, etc., which fully reflects the latest achievements of the digital transformation of the consumer goods industry. Yili, Mengniu, Dewu, Jingdong and other key enterprises in the consumer goods industry and information technology service enterprises were shortlisted.

"Consumer goods enterprises should give full play to and tap the value of massive data elements in the industry, accelerate digital transformation, open up the data link between the production end and the consumer end, promote the coordination and efficient matching of supply and demand, and promote digital empowerment, value-added and efficiency improvement." Wang Xiaoyang said.

Application scenarios continue to expand

At present, the construction of the industrial Internet platform has been accelerated, laying a good foundation for the digital transformation of the consumer goods industry.

In view of the pain points of digital transformation of Guangzhou luggage and leather goods industry cluster, Inspur Yunzhou has developed identification analysis coding standards and industrial innovation application standards for the luggage and leather goods industry by taking orders as the starting point and data elements as the driving force, and built a collaborative manufacturing platform for the luggage industry chain around the manufacturing industry chain operation mode of "order receiving - R&D/procurement - production - delivery", Digital operation and management services were provided. Wang Peng, the first level inspector of the Information and Communication Administration of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, said that there are more than 270 industrial Internet platforms with certain influence in China, and the security technology service system of national, provincial and enterprise linkage is increasingly improved. Nearly 600 industrial Internet pilot demonstration projects and 8 industrial demonstration bases have been selected, and industrial Internet has been integrated into 45 major categories of national economy.

Identification analysis system plays an increasingly prominent role in supporting the traceability of the whole process of consumer goods, data exchange between upstream and downstream of the supply chain, and resource collaboration. New models and new business forms, such as networked collaboration, personalized customization, and service-oriented extension, continue to emerge, and accelerate popularization in more than 10 key industries, such as household appliances, textiles, clothing, and 20 typical application scenarios of "5G+industrial Internet", such as flexible production, intelligent tallying, and collaborative design.

Wang Xiaoyang said that it is necessary to give full play to the role of digital platforms such as the consumer goods industry digital transformation promotion center (industrial Internet) and the consumer goods industry digital transformation public service platform, enhance users' participation in the whole product life cycle through industrial Internet and other digital technologies, and provide personalized design, flexible production, product traceability and remote services and other applications, Improve the quality of consumer goods and brand competitiveness, and accelerate the release of domestic demand potential. Give full play to the role of e-commerce platform, use database technology, network communication technology, modern logistics technology, accurately grasp the needs, and cultivate a batch of high-quality products with outstanding quality advantages and good reputation among consumers.

Wang Peng revealed that the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology will formulate and issue guidelines to promote the high-quality development of industrial Internet, and form a top-level design in the stage of large-scale development. Build an upgraded version of "5G+Industrial Internet", organize the implementation of the three-year action plan of "connectivity", promote the "chain network collaboration" between industrial Internet and key industrial chains, and develop application guidelines for integration of key industries, including consumer goods.
