"When I was in middle school, I aspired to be a Chinese teacher and wanted to give up several times. It was my learning experience in China that helped me regain the confidence to realize my dream." Huang Duoli, a teacher of the 6th Middle School in Chiang Rai, Thailand, said in a recent interview.

From October 9 to 20, the 2023 talent training class for overseas Chinese teachers and key members of associations in Guangxi was held in Guangxi Overseas Chinese School. 60 Chinese language teachers and key members of the community from Thailand participated in the training to learn Chinese grammar, Chinese painting, Chinese martial arts, ethnic handcrafted "what" and other courses.

Huang Duoli was one of the trainees of this training class. She told the reporter, "I began to learn Chinese from college, and found it difficult at the beginning. After two years of learning, I still didn't improve much." This made Huang Duoli very discouraged. The turning point occurred in her junior year, when she was offered the opportunity to work as an exchange student at Kaifeng University in China.

"During the four months of studying in Kaifeng University, my Chinese level has improved by leaps and bounds," said Huang Duoli, whose communication with Chinese teachers and classmates has made her more fluent in oral English; Ordering meals and taking a bus enrich her Chinese vocabulary.

After returning to Thailand from his exchange experience, Huang Duoli successfully passed the HSK Level 5 Certificate. Now, Huang Duoli has been working as a teacher for five years, and currently teaches basic Chinese in Qinglai No. 6 Middle School.

Huang Duoli said that this was not her first time to attend the training organized by Guangxi Overseas Chinese School. In 2018, she participated in the online training class held by the school. "Offline training has been more fruitful. For example, teachers will teach" what "by hand and soon learn it." Huang Duoli said that she would bring her "what" back to Thailand to show students.

Huang Duoli introduced that Qinglai No. 6 Middle School has Chinese elective courses in junior high school. On Chinese traditional festivals, the school will let students who take Chinese courses experience Chinese traditional folk activities. For example, teaching students to make dumplings during the Dragon Boat Festival; Teach students to sing folk songs during festivals. In her opinion, only by experiencing these traditional folk customs can they be better passed on to students.

"My experience as an exchange student in China helped me realize my 'Chinese teacher dream'. In this training, I look forward to understanding Guangxi folk customs, feeling Chinese culture and becoming a better Chinese teacher," said Huang Duoli.

Chen Yujia, a teacher from Chiang Rai No. 5 Middle School in Thailand, also participated in the training. She told reporters that she became attached to Chinese because of a Chinese singer, Jay Chou. "His songs have beautiful melodies, very moving lyrics, and full of rhythm. In his songs, I have experienced the beauty of Chinese expression." Referring to her idol, she teased, "because a person falls in love with a language."

Chen Yujia said that she was looking forward to participating in Jay Chou's concert, and also hoped that she could sing with idols off the stage. "This training is to improve my Chinese expression ability."

In this activity, Zhao Meicheng, director of the Cultural Exchange Center in Daruna Fuze, Thailand, was mainly responsible for the organization of Thai Chinese teachers. She believes that with the deepening of economic cooperation between Thailand and China, Thailand has an increasing demand for talents who are familiar with Chinese. There are many students in Thailand who love Chinese culture and want to learn Chinese. The problem faced by Thai Chinese education is that Chinese teachers lack Chinese cultural literacy. "We hope our teachers can accumulate rich knowledge and experience in the training and apply the knowledge of Chinese culture and talent skills they have learned to practical teaching."

During the training, Yao Yuanzhong, president of Guangxi Overseas Chinese School, said that the teaching content of this training class was very rich. It contains not only the basis of Chinese grammar, but also unique traditional Chinese talents. I hope this trip will enhance your ability to understand and appreciate the Chinese language and Chinese culture, and deepen the friendship between the people of China and Thailand. (End)
