Hubei Wuhan National Biological Industry Base (i.e. "Optics Valley Biological City") is located in Hubei Wuhan East Lake National Independent Innovation Demonstration Zone. The construction started in November 2008, focusing on the development of biomedicine, bio agriculture, medical devices, biological services, smart medicine and health, precision diagnosis and other fields. In the past seven years, Optics Valley Biological City has gathered nearly 900 biological enterprises, 12 academician projects, 385 domestic and foreign high-end biological teams and more than 40000 professional talents, with an average annual growth rate of more than 30%, through measures such as building an international professional park, adhering to independent innovation, introducing and cultivating market players, promoting the deep integration of capital and industry, and optimizing the comprehensive development environment. According to the Research Report on China's Biomedical Parks issued by China Biotechnology Center in 2014, the comprehensive strength of Optics Valley Bio City ranks second among 108 bio industrial parks in China, among which the basic competitiveness and sustainable development competitiveness rank first in China.
It is estimated that by 2020, Optics Valley Biological City will achieve a total income of more than 300 billion yuan in biological industry, drive the total income of biological and health industry in Hubei Province to exceed 800 billion yuan, and become one of the "troika" of strategic emerging industries in Hubei Province.
