Sina Science and Technology News On July 30, Beijing time, according to foreign media reports, NASA astronaut Terry Wiltz recently conducted an experiment on the International Space Station, adding a piece of effervescent tablet to a drop of water suspended in mid air.Under the action of low gravity, the effervescent tablet hisses and bubbles in midair, and sprays water all around. With the help of a new ultra high definition camera, Wiltz recorded the entire test process.
In the experiment, astronaut Terry Wiltz added an alkaloid Seltzer effervescent tablet to a drop of water suspended in midair, and observed the whole process of effervescent tablets fizzing and finally dissolving in midair. As Wiltz used the syringe to add more water, the spherical water drop finally became a foam ball.
Wiltz also observed that as the effervescent tablets dissolved to produce escape gas, small water spots scattered in all directions from the surface of the suspended water ball.In fact, drinking this intensely bubbling soda in space can cause headaches rather than cure them.In the space station, astronauts have to use specially modified drinking straws to drink water to prevent water droplets from floating up and damaging precision equipment.
With this test, NASA engineers have the opportunity to test their new 6K resolution RED Epic Dragon camera. The camera can also capture images at 300 frames per second, which can perfectly capture fast moving pictures.Astronauts use it to record the scene of material transport spacecraft stopping and leaving the space station, providing additional data for the scientific research work of the space station.
Rodney Gruber, head of the imaging expert program of NASA Marshall Space Flight Center, said that the experiment of adding effervescent tablets to water provided them with an excellent opportunity to test their cameras. He said: "This is a huge leap in the imaging technology in space flight. The camera has several large sensors, which can achieve high frame rate and high definition imaging."
The American Space Exploration Technology Company delivered supplies to the International Space Station in January 2015, and delivered the camera to astronauts.NASA said it hoped that astronauts would use the camera in the future to provide more high-definition video clips about the space station and beyond for viewers in front of television or computer screens. The camera will also take a lot of detailed pictures of our planet from space.(Binbin)
