The Royal Air Show is hosted by the Royal Air Force (all profits from the event belong to its charitable trust fund), but it is not a review ceremony of British military forces. In fact, it is more like a carnival, gathering classic and future flying artifacts from all over the world. The event attracted aircraft enthusiasts from all over the world to pay homage to the best, earliest and most unusual aircraft in the world.
This year's exhibition included the aircraft provided by the air forces of Belgium, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Jordan, the Netherlands, Poland, Spain, Switzerland, the United Kingdom and the United States. There are military and civilian aircraft, the most advanced models, and well preserved classic old models.
It is said that this exhibition is the largest military air show in the world. Like many things in Britain, it has developed from a small amateur aircraft activity when it was first founded to today's three-day epic celebration. The event began in 1971 at an airport in Essex, England, with only about 100 aircraft participating. Today, air forces from 30 countries gathered at RAF Fairford, the new venue, with more than 500 aircraft, and received the admiration of more than 150000 participants here. The event won the status of "internationalization" in 1996, and was awarded the title of "royal" in the same year to commend its importance.
The Royal Air Show can always feast the eyes of aircraft fans. Some once secret military aircraft often use this exhibition as an opportunity to make their first public appearances. In 1997, the US B-2A Spirit 'Stealth Bomber' made its first overseas appearance here; In 2008, the United States demonstrated the latest F-22 Raptor here. At the same time, there are many famous classic old aircraft participating in the air show - for example, this year, there were perfectly restored aircraft of the World War II era: Supermarine Spitfires and Messerschmitt Bf109G-4 fighter planes. Both of them performed the chase battle in the air, which immediately brought the audience back to the moment of air battle 75 years ago. A Bristol Blenheim bomber also reappeared in the blue sky. The famous Bristol Company had already built this aircraft twenty years before it turned to producing luxury cars. The old British strategic bomber during the Cold War was also invited to appear.
The CV-22B Osprey in the United States is also popular - it looks strange, like a hybrid of helicopter and aircraft. We also witnessed the thrilling somersault performance of the Boeing Apache helicopter, and even the British civil Airbus A-400 also performed aerobatics...... It is hard to imagine that this kind of ordinary aircraft could do such a complex aerial acrobatics without seeing it with their own eyes. The flight performance of the Polish Air Force is very exciting. They continue to use the old aircraft inherited from the former Soviet Union in 1990, and they are still young. The MiG-29 fighter jet is also very promising for circling in the air. Sukhoi Su-22M-4 fighter can also be seen in the exhibition area. After taking off, RAF Typhoon jet directly entered the vertical climb, which amazed the audience; Then it flew over the top of the audience at a speed of 700 kilometers per hour from a place only 50 meters above the ground!
The highlight most people expect is the performance of professional aerobatics teams. The Patrulla Aguila from Spain excited the audience, and the French Patrouille de France was also very popular. The British Red Arrow Flying Show Team once again appeared on schedule at the annual event, performing deadly high-speed stunts, while spraying the sky with the red, white and blue smoke of the British flag. Some of the planes were only two meters apart when flying at high speed.
On any of the three days of the exhibition, you can see nearly seven hours of flight shows. Visitors can sit on the grass to watch, or go to a specially designated area to enjoy the performance. The viewing area is only 50 meters away from the runway. Many people use cameras to record the wonderful moments when the plane takes off and lands. If you are not interested in aviation, it doesn't matter. You can enter many tents and temporary buildings here, which are full of shops for shopping and selling all kinds of strange and wonderful goods. There are also many delicious food (such as fish and chips, hot dogs, hamburgers, pies, etc.) in the air show, which can be served with beer, wine or various drinks while eating and drinking.
The Royal International Airshow is very interesting and full of friendly atmosphere. People can hardly feel that they are participating in a military activity. The atmosphere here is more like a sports match. Airplanes and helicopters of all ages and different styles are flying in the air. Supporters and fans applaud and marvel.
