Code for design of lightning protection of buildings

　 Chapter I General Provisions

Article 1.0.1 This specification is formulated in order to make the lightning protection design of buildings (including structures, the same below) take lightning protection measures according to local conditions, prevent or reduce casualties, cultural relics and property losses caused by lightning strikes on buildings, and ensure safety, reliability, advanced technology, economy and rationality.

Article 1.0.2 This specification is applicable to the lightning protection design of new buildings.

This specification is not applicable to lightning protection design of antenna tower, common antenna TV receiving system, oil tank and outdoor chemical equipment.

Article 1.0.3 The lightning protection design of buildings shall study the form and layout of lightning protection devices in detail on the basis of careful investigation of geographical, geological, soil, meteorological, environmental and other conditions, lightning activity rules and characteristics of protected objects.

Article 1.0.4 The lightning protection design of buildings shall not only comply with the provisions of this code, but also comply with the provisions of the current national standards and specifications.

　　 Chapter II Classification of Lightning Protection for Buildings

Article 2.0.1 Buildings shall be divided into three categories according to their importance, use nature, possibility and consequences of lightning accidents and lightning protection requirements.

In one of the following circumstances, Clause 2.0.2 shall be classified as Class I lightning protection buildings:

1、 Buildings manufacturing, using or storing explosives, gunpowder, primary explosives, initiating explosive devices and other large quantities of explosive substances will cause explosion due to electric sparks, which will cause huge damage and casualties.

2、 Buildings with explosive hazardous environment in Zone 0 or Zone 10.

3、 Buildings with Zone 1 explosive hazardous environment will explode due to electric sparks, which will cause huge damage and casualties.

Article 2.0.3 Lightning protection buildings shall be classified as Class II lightning protection buildings in any of the following circumstances:

1、 Buildings under national key cultural relics protection.

2、 National halls, office buildings, large exhibition and expo buildings, large railway stations, state guesthouses, national archives, important water supply pump houses in large cities and other particularly important buildings.

3、 National computing centers, international communication hubs and other buildings that are important to the national economy and are equipped with a large number of electronic equipment.

4、 Buildings manufacturing, using or storing explosive substances, and electric sparks are not easy to cause explosion or cause great damage and casualties.

5、 Buildings with Zone 1 explosive hazardous environment, and electric sparks are not easy to cause explosion or cause great damage and casualties.

6、 Buildings with explosive hazardous environment in Zone 2 or Zone 11.

7、 Open steel enclosed gas tank with explosion risk in industrial enterprises.

8、 Ministry and provincial office buildings and other important or densely populated public buildings with the expected number of lightning strikes greater than 0.06/a.

9、 Residential buildings, office buildings and other general civil buildings with the expected number of lightning strikes greater than 0.3 times/a.

Note: The estimated number of lightning strikes shall be calculated according to Appendix I of this specification;
