Mechanical completion of Iraqi natural gas project benefits people's livelihood and promotes development

The Halfaya Natural Gas Treatment Plant Project, invested and constructed by Chinese enterprises, is the first oil and gas project in Iraq that deals with associated gas while oil exploitation is in progress. The project will be constructed in 2020 and mechanically completed by the end of September this year. As an important part of the "Belt and Road" initiative, the completion of the project will make positive contributions to Iraq's economic development and improvement of people's livelihood.

Halfaya Natural Gas Processing Plant Project is the largest natural gas processing project in southern Iraq, and also the first oil and gas project in the country to process associated gas at the same time of oil exploitation. The mechanical completion of the project was officially completed at the end of September this year, meeting the conditions for production.

After the Halfaya Natural Gas Treatment Plant project is fully put into operation, it can reduce sulfur dioxide emissions by nearly 30000 tons every year, and the produced liquefied petroleum gas can generate 5 billion kilowatt hours of electricity every year, which can meet the needs of local families and effectively solve the problem of power shortage in southern Iraq.

Chinese Master and Kenyan Apprentice in People's Livelihood Project

Not only in Iraq, but not long ago, the Nairobi water supply pipeline project, a key livelihood project in Kenya, was partially completed and delivered. It is expected that the whole line will be open to water by the end of this year. This big project led by Chinese enterprises not only opened up the "lifeline" of local water supply, but also cultivated a number of new forces for foundation construction by means of "mentoring". Among them, there is a pair of "Chinese and African masters and apprentices" who are of different nationalities and similar ages. They are close to each other because of the project.

This is Kigoro Village, Sika Town, on the plateau in the south of Kenya. The construction team is laying water supply pipelines to introduce water from the dam area into Nairobi urban area and solve the water problem of nearly 3 million people in the capital. The Chinese engineer who is carrying out the survey is called Yu Chunyu, and the Kenyan boy next to him is his apprentice, John Wang. Nearly 300 positions of surveyors and welders in the project construction are local people. At the initial stage of construction, the skill level of local staff was uneven. In order to enable everyone to master skills quickly, the Chinese construction team has set up courses such as surveying and welding, with each person taking 3 to 10 Kenyan apprentices.

Such "mentoring" teaching not only enabled Kenyan employees such as John Wang to learn how to use level, welding, machinery and other equipment, but also made the employees of the two countries form a deep friendship between teachers and friends.

These two young people of the same age have become masters and apprentices from their colleagues, and they are also like good brothers who are close to each other. Every rest day, the three members of John Wang's family will send their own vegetables and fruits to the project, and Yu Chunyu will also give them Chinese food in return.

With the advancement of the project, more and more local young people have found jobs and learned technology here, which has become a new force to promote the development of Kenya's infrastructure industry and a new engine to promote the construction of the "Belt and Road".
