Escape string composition

  • Escape Sequence, or Character Entity, is divided into three parts: the first part is an ampersand; The second part is the name of the entity or # plus the entity number; The third part is a semicolon.
  • For example, to display the less than sign (<), you can write<or<.
  • The advantage of using an Entity name is that it is easy to understand. When you look at lt, you can guess that it means less than. However, its disadvantage is that not all browsers support the latest Entity name. The entity number can be processed by all kinds of browsers.
  • Tip: Entity names are case sensitive.
  • Note: The same symbol can be referenced in two ways: "entity name" and "entity number". The advantage of "entity name" is that it is easy to remember, but it cannot be guaranteed that all browsers can recognize it successfully. While "entity number" does not have this concern, it is actually not convenient to remember.

Why use escape strings?

  • In HTML,<,>,&, etc. have special meanings (<,>, for link tags,&for escape) and cannot be used directly. These symbols are not displayed in the webpage we finally see. What should we do if we want to display these symbols in the webpage?
  • This is about HTML Escape Sequence.
  • Escape Sequence is also called Character Entity. In HTML, there are two reasons for defining escape strings: the first reason is that symbols such as "<" and ">" have been used to represent HTML tags, so they cannot be directly used as symbols in text. In order to use these symbols in HTML documents, you need to define its escape string. When the interpreter encounters such a string, it interprets it as a real character. When you enter an escape string, you must strictly follow the rules of letter case. The second reason is that some characters are not defined in the ASCII character set, so they need to be represented by escape strings.

How do I display spaces?

  • Normally, HTML will automatically truncate extra spaces. No matter how many spaces you add, they are regarded as one space. For example, if you add 10 spaces between two words, HTML will truncate 9 spaces, leaving only one. In order to add a space in a web page, you can use to indicate a space.
