Recently, the Australian government distributed more than 40000 "Nature Amusement Permits" to primary school students in order to make them smarter by getting close to nature and exercising more, and improve their ability to cope with challenges. Songa Cusco, a researcher at Curtin University, said: "Compared with watching TV and surfing the Internet, children participating in outdoor activities can not only exercise their living ability, but also improve their self-confidence. Moreover, those children who do not wear shoes are often smarter than those who often wear shoes. This is because nature has its own way of educating children. Children cannot learn these valuable experiences from books."
The "15 things that must be done before the age of 12" advocated by the activity specifically includes:
1. Climb trees.
2. Self built small utility room.
3. Sleeping (camping) under a starry sky.
4. Invent a game and can play it for more than 3 days.
5. Learn to swim.
6. Chase the waves.
7. Hiking.
8. Play by the stream.
9. Visit a national park.
10. Play in the rain.
11. Catch tadpoles.
12. Build castles on the beach.
13. Make a mud pie.
14. Plant and observe the growth of plants.
15. Learn to ride a bike.
