Disaster quick report

Rainfall sets a new record: one year's rainfall will be over in two days

"The rain is really too heavy!" The continuous heavy rain has hit South Taiwan hard, and the low-lying coastal areas in the south are a vast ocean, which is the worst flood disaster in 50 years. Taiwan's meteorological department said that the rainfall in Gaoping (Kaohsiung, Pingtung) area in the first two days has exceeded the total rainfall of a year. The rainfall of a year is over in two days, and it is difficult to prepare for more without being flooded.

Because the typhoon was moving too slowly, the strong rain belt of southwest airflow stayed in the central and southern part of the country. The meteorological department revised the estimated total rainfall on the 9th. The total rainfall in Chiayi Mountain was 2900mm, that in Gaoping Mountain was 2700mm, and that in Nantou and Tainan Mountain was 2000-2200mm.

According to the statistics of the meteorological department, the average annual rainfall over the past 30 years is 2017 mm in Pingtung Hengchun and 1784.8 mm in Kaohsiung. However, the "Morakotai" scenery is the rainfall on the 7th and 8th, with 2147mm in Menweiliao Mountain in Pingtung and 1784mm in Yuyou Mountain in Taoyuan Township, Kaohsiung County, which is equal to or more than the total rainfall of a whole year.

According to statistics, by 12:00 p.m. on the 8th, nine of Taiwan's top ten historical single day rainfall occurred on the 8th, and there were 13 stations with a single day rainfall of more than 1000mm. The one-day and two-day rainfall of Typhoon Morakot broke the records of all typhoons in the past.

Severe disaster in the south: dozens of residential buildings rushed into the Pacific Ocean

Typhoon Morakot brought heavy disaster to Taitung. At 5:00 a.m. on the 8th, the dike of Taimali Creek burst instantly, and the flood overflowed the South Taimali Creek. Dozens of houses and farmhouses fell into the billowing flood. Twenty or thirty people were trapped. Fortunately, at about 3:00 p.m., the flight crew helicopter took a risk to rescue and successfully rescued 24 trapped people. However, police officers Xu Jinci and Jiang Wenxiang from Taimali police station disappeared together with the police car.

The Taimali section of the Nanhui Highway and the Nanhui Railway suffered from the loss of more than 700 meters of bases and piers due to the breach of the dam at Taimali Creek.

Not only was the traffic situation miserable, but the villagers in Jialan were even worse. The people and the flood robbed time. As soon as the people moved their luggage to escape, their homes were engulfed by the flood. Many people cried bitterly at the sight of their homes tilting, losing and being engulfed. Residents said that at least 20 homes were washed into the Pacific Ocean.

Two thirds of Pingdong County is soaked in water; In Kaohsiung County, 27 villages and towns were also hit by floods. Cao Qihong, head of Pingtung County, said, "The flood is serious, which is the first time in 50 years." In addition to power cuts, telephone communication in the affected areas is also poor; In addition, with the surge of streams and the closure of 11 bridges in Pingdong County, children were unable to enter the disaster area to pick up their relatives. Some people cried.

Summary of the whole station: 7 dead, 46 missing, nearly 1.1 billion agricultural losses

The Highway Administration said that the main disaster situation of the expressway was the Chiayi water road section of the Tai82 line, that is, the Tai1 line to the "National Highway" No. 3 road, which was not closed due to the accumulation of water; The section from Kaohsiung to Chaozhou in Pingtung on Tai88 Line was closed due to the rising stream of the Wanda Bridge in Gaoping and the ponding in the overpass area.
