Xiangfan suffers from a 450 year heavy rain
In July 2008, under the influence of the upper low trough and the shear line of the middle and lower layers, the rainstorm process occurred successively in Yichang, Changyang, Xingshan, Shayang, Xiangfan, Enshi and other places in Hubei Province. On the 22nd, the rainstorm belt moved to Xiangfan and Enshi. During the daytime, there was a heavy rainstorm in these two areas, including Xiangfan, where the 12 hour precipitation reached more than 260 mm, breaking a new record of local precipitation in the past 50 years.
Since the 20th, several places in Hubei Province have been hit by torrential rain. By 17:00 on the 22nd, the torrential rain had killed 6 people in five counties, cities and towns in the province, including Changyang, Xingshan and Shayang. The local meteorological department predicted that the torrential rain process would continue.
According to statistics, from 8:00 on the 21st to 8:00 on the 23rd, the average rainfall in Xiangfan City was 138.5 mm. The rainfall was mainly concentrated in the urban area and the Tangbai River basin. The rainstorm center was in the direction of Zaoyang in the urban area. The maximum rainfall was 308 mm monitored by Xiangyang Station. Rainfall has a wide range, concentrated time and high intensity, more than 100 year return period.
The rainstorm affected 8 counties (cities) in Xiangfan, with 1.0528 million people affected, 1397700 mu of crops affected, 791 houses collapsed, more than 40000 meters of canals collapsed, 15 ponds damaged, and 138.2 kilometers of village roads damaged. According to preliminary statistics, all kinds of direct economic losses were 665 million yuan. The Wuhan Regional Climate Center reported that the torrential rain in Xiangfan from the 21st to the 22nd was once in 450 years. According to the data released by Xiangfan Flood Control Office, the maximum rainfall in 48 hours was 308mm, causing 1.0528 million people to be affected.
On July 22, Xiangfan firefighters managed to move the flood besieged people to safety. On the same day, Xiangfan, Hubei, suffered heavy rainfall, waterlogging occurred in many low-lying areas in the urban area, and some people were trapped by floods. The local armed police, public security and fire departments dispatched quickly to transfer the masses.
