Ten years of the Cultural Revolution

Reform and development
After the downfall of the Gang of Four, China's higher education is back on track.Since 1977, the unified enrollment and examination system for colleges and universities has been restored nationwide, and the university has resumed to enroll four-year undergraduate students.
In 1978, Shanghai Normal University, Shanghai Institute of Physical Education and Shanghai Institute of Education separated from Shanghai Normal University, ending a six-year history of merging schools.[165]The files during the merging period shall be kept by East China Normal University.[165]After the campus, East China Normal University continued to use the name of "Shanghai Normal University".[165]
In September 1979, the university founded the Night University.[18]

On November 26, 1981, with the approval of the State Council, East China Normal University became one of the first batch of doctoral and master's degree awarding units in China. In August 1997, Shanghai Preschool Normal College was incorporated into East China Normal University, and Shanghai Nanlin Normal School was under the management of East China Normal University. The early buildings of East China Normal University are located in the campus of East China Normal University at 3663 North Zhongshan Road, including the activity center for veteran cadres, office building, "three halls" and Chairman Mao's portrait.The activity center for veteran cadres (No. 163, the first village of Shida), a two-story building with brick and wood structure, with a building area of 413 square meters, was used as aSun TaolinResidence of Vice President.The office building was built in 1952, a two-story building of brick concrete structure, with a building area of 1452 square meters.
