Children's poor handwriting may be pathological

http://www.sina.com.cn       Shunwang - Contemporary Health News

As parents and teachers, everyone likes to see children write neatly and beautifully. However, some children are poor at writing. In addition to being lazy and inattentive, they may also have physical health problems that adults should pay attention to.

From the medical point of view, the main reasons for children's poor handwriting are:

  1. Physical perception disorder

Some children often have difficulty in recognizing the spatial position of their body parts. They can not manipulate their hands through feeling, but need to rely on vision. Therefore, when writing, the head is often close to the desktop, and the finger pen is too low (mainly at the end of the finger). The words written in this way are difficult to look beautiful, and it is also easy to cause fatigue after a long time. Because the end of the finger is small, the child must maintain the writing movement with force. When fatigue occurs, children will use their left arm to support their body's center of gravity, making it difficult for their hands to fix the paper, so the body will stagger.

   2. Memory impairment in fine motor

Writing is a kind of fine hand movement, which is not unconscious, but must be led by the brain to write regularly and orderly. Once people learn to write correctly, this experience will be preserved and become a memory for future writing. When there is memory impairment in fine movement, the words written by children will change from good to bad.

  3. It is also related to the stability of muscle strength

The writing process requires both correct pen holding posture and correct sitting posture. If the child's muscle strength is insufficient and the stability is poor, the writing posture will be easy to be irregular and fatigue, and the writing speed will slow down, and the more writing, the harder it will be.

Therefore, when children are found to be poor in writing, do not blindly accuse children of deliberately not writing well, but should take positive corrective measures. When correcting and guiding children to write, pay attention to their pen holding and body posture. Only with correct posture can we write more, faster and better. It is reported that sensory integration training is commonly used in medicine to enhance children's muscle strength and improve their body balance and eye and hand coordination. The purpose of sensory integration training is to control the input of various senses to strengthen the body's perception of touch and information processing functions. Clinical practice shows that all children with normal intelligence but problems in writing have faster and more obvious improvement after training. ■ Wei Yanping
