Recently, the first large-scale energy project put into operation for power generation in the China Pakistan Economic Corridor, the Sahiwar Coal fired Power Station, won the 16th Annual Environmental Excellence Award of Pakistan (power and energy). Up to now, Sahiwal Coal fired Power Station has won 15 national and 26 provincial and ministerial awards issued by the Pakistani government, and the environmental protection work has been highly appreciated by all sectors of Pakistan.
Sahiwal Coal fired Power Station was jointly invested and constructed by China Huaneng Shandong Power Generation Co., Ltd. and China Shandong Ruyi Group. It was officially started in 2015 and put into operation for power generation in 2017. It is currently the most advanced coal-fired power station in Pakistan with the best environmental indicators and the fastest construction speed. The annual power generation of the power station is 9 billion kilowatt hours, filling a quarter of the electricity gap in Pakistan, injecting strong impetus into Pakistan's economic and social development and improving people's livelihood, and effectively promoting the construction of the China Pakistan Economic Corridor.
Behind the honor is the strict design, construction, implementation and supervision of project engineers. Yang Wenqiang, the chief engineer of the project, introduced that at the beginning of the project design, the goal was to build a "green power plant". A series of strict environmental protection measures are taken in the construction, and advanced technologies are adopted in various links such as desulfurization, dust removal, noise control, ash disposal, etc. He also said that the unit of the project is a supercritical coal-fired power generation unit made in China, and the high-efficiency electrostatic precipitator, flue gas desulfurization and sewage treatment facilities will be built at the same time. The unit performance, environmental protection and economic indicators are at the highest level of the same type of units in Pakistan.
Since it was put into operation in 2017, the environmental protection facilities of Sahiwal coal-fired power plant have operated well. According to the report of the third-party monitoring organization recognized by the Pakistani government, all environmental indicators are significantly better than the standards of Pakistan and the World Bank, and are unanimously praised by the Pakistan Environmental Protection Agency (Bureau) and governments at all levels.
