In 1925 (the 14th year of the Republic of China), Li Zongren, as the new Guangxi faculty, and others decided to establish Guangxi University Ma Junwu In 1939, it was renamed National Guangxi University. In 1950, it merged with Nanning Normal University (now Guangxi Normal University), and in 1952, Mao Zedong wrote the name of Guangxi University in his own handwriting; In the same year, the College of Agriculture of Guangxi University became an independent Guangxi Agricultural College. In 1953, when the national colleges and departments were adjusted, the teachers and students, disciplines, majors, equipment and books of Guangxi University were adjusted to 19 colleges and universities in central and southern China. In 1958, the State Council approved the restoration and reconstruction of Guangxi University in Nanning. Guangxi has higher education, which began in 1899 when Huang Huaisen, the governor of Guangxi, founded a school for physical education outside Wenchang, Guilin. However, the modern universities with real significance in Guangxi started from Guangxi University.
  • Provincial Guangxi University (Wuzhou, 1928)
In 1925 (the 14th year of the Republic of China), the New Guangxi Clique led by Li Zongren and Huang Shaohong united Guangxi. In order to cultivate and build Guangxi talents, it was decided to establish Guangxi University.
In the winter of 1927, Huang Shaohong, the provincial president, invited Ma Junwu, a stay in Germany engineering doctor, to return to Guangxi to prepare for the establishment of Guangxi University, and formally established the Preparatory Committee for the Provincial Guangxi University. Huang Shaohong was the chairman of the committee in person.
At the beginning of 1928, Guangxi University began infrastructure construction, which lasted for half a year. The local government held a grand opening ceremony, and Ma Junwu was appointed as the first president. At the beginning of his tenure, he proposed the founding purpose of Guangxi University to "revitalize China and develop Guangxi". At that time, there were very few senior high school graduates in Guangxi, so the first enrollment of Guangxi University was Preparatory student 。 Although it was a preparatory course, Ma Junwu hired 13 professors from Shanghai and other places to teach at the university. The campus is located in Butterfly Mountain, Hexi District, Wuzhou City, which is the first higher education in Guangxi.
In June 1929, the school was suspended due to the Guangdong Guangxi War.
In May 1931, Guangxi decided to restore Guangxi University, and began enrollment in July of the same year. [14]
  • National Guangxi University (1939 Guilin ）
In 1936, in anticipation of the outbreak of the all-around war of resistance against Japan, the Guangxi Provincial Government moved Guangxi University, which is close to the coast, from Butterfly Mountain in Wuzhou to Yanshan Mountain in Guilin, and established the Provincial Teachers College as the School of Grammar and Law of Guangxi University. Two years after the beginning of the comprehensive war of resistance against Japan, many young people from other provinces exiled to Guilin. The source of students and teachers of Guangxi University has expanded rapidly, and its original provincial nature has been unable to accommodate the development of Guangxi University. [6] [15] In the same year, Guangxi Provincial Teachers College was incorporated into Guangxi University, and the College of Grammar and Law was established in Nanning [16] ； Guangxi Provincial Medical College was merged into Guangxi University, and a medical college was added (Guangxi Military Medical School was established independently in 1937, namely Guangxi Medical University Predecessor).
Letter of Appointment of President of National Guangxi University
On August 22, 1939, the 420th session of the Executive Yuan of the National Government passed a resolution to change the provincial Guangxi University into the National Guangxi University from the second semester of this year. On September 5, the Ministry of Education issued the Measures for the Transformation of Guangxi Provincial Guangxi University into the National Guangxi University, and appointed Ma Junwu as the president of the National Guangxi University. On October 10, Guangxi University held a ceremony to welcome Ma back to school, Li Zongren, Huang Xuchu, Lei Peihong and other military, political and educational administrative leaders of Guangxi attended the conference. [1]
On August 1, 1940, President Ma Junwu died in Guilin Yanshan Campus. After Ma Junwu died, Jiang Jieshi sent a message of condolence. The leaders of the Communist Party of China Zhou Enlai, Zhu De, Peng Dehuai and others presented their mourning scrolls through the Eighth Route Army's office in Guilin. The academic celebrities Weng Wenhao, Zhu Kezhen, Sa Bendong and Shanghai Daxia University (now East China Normal University) also sent messages of condolence. [15] [17]
On August 1, 1943, the Ministry of Education decided to incorporate the specialized teacher training department of Guangxi University into Guilin Normal University, Guangxi Province, and renamed it National Guilin Normal University (moved to Nanning in the autumn of 1946, renamed it National Nanning Normal University in April 1949). During the Anti Japanese War, a group of famous scholars, such as Li Siguang, Chen Wangdao, Chen Yinke, Li Da, Wang Li, Qian Jiaju, Liang Shuming, Lu Hefu, Chen Huanyong, Shi Ruwei, Wang Zhenru, Li Yunhua, Liu Xianzhou, Ji Yufeng, Xiong Deshan, Zhang Yingnan, Zhang Zhirang, Sheng Cheng, Jiao Juyin, taught in Guangxi University. [9]
In the summer of 1944, when the Japanese invaders invaded the south, Changsha and Hengyang fell one after another, Guangxi was in an emergency, and Xida was evacuated ahead of schedule. In September, the school moved to Rong County. In November, Liuzhou entered a wartime state, and the school moved to Rongjiang, Guizhou.

In August 1945, the Japanese fascists surrendered, Counter-Japanese War Victory, [66] Guangxi University moved back to Guangxi from Rongjiang in Guizhou and temporarily settled in the Zhegu River in Liuzhou. [18]
In the spring of 1946, students initiated the "Return to Wuzhou Movement" and moved back to Butterfly Mountain in Wuzhou. In September, it moved back to Guilin, with its headquarters in Jiangjun Bridge. After returning to Guilin, Guangxi University ran schools in the Central Radio Equipment Factory of Jiangjunqiao and Liangfeng, with a campus area of more than 5000 mu. The scale of the school was further expanded. By 1948, there were 261 teaching staff and more than 2000 students on campus.
On March 16, 1950, the People's Government of Guangxi Province made a decision in February to incorporate the National Nanning Normal University into Guangxi University. A total of 358 staff and students from seven departments of Nanning Normal University, including education, Chinese culture, history and geography, English, mathematics, physics and chemistry, and natural history, moved from Nanning to Guilin and merged into Guangxi University, establishing the Normal College of Guangxi University.
In March 1951, the People's Government of Guangxi Province, in accordance with the spirit of the National Conference on Higher Education held by the Ministry of Education of the Central Committee and with the consent of the Central South Bureau of the Communist Party of China, decided to incorporate the undergraduate part of Guangxi Xijiang University into Guangxi University.
In early 1952, Mao Zedong The chairman inscribed the name of Guangxi University. On October 23 of the same year, the College of Agriculture of Guangxi University was established independently, retaining the two departments of agronomy and forestry Guangxi Agricultural University 。
