In 1956, when the young Republic was in the hot era of large-scale industrialization,Ministry of Heavy IndustryAccording to the requirements of the first five-year plan of the country, it was decided to establish Guilin Geological School, and more than 10 people were transferred from Central South Institute of Technology, Changchun Geological School and other metallurgical institutions to take charge of the preparatory work.
In 1956, Guilin Metallurgical Geology School was founded at the foot of Putuo Mountain in Guilin, and immediately recruited the first group of students.
In April 1958, Guilin Geological School was transferred to Guangxi, under the dual leadership of the central and local governments, and the daily management was mainly local.
In August 1958, the school was upgraded and renamed as "Guangxi Metallurgy College", under the dual leadership of the central and local governments.In order to meet the needs of the situation at that time, six majors were added, including smelting, electromechanical, mining, mineral processing and metalworking.In order to meet the needs of talent training in Guangxi, Xiwan Branch School is opened.
In February 1960, with the approval of the government of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, the school was renamed "Guangxi Institute of Mining and Metallurgy". In that year, there were 199 undergraduate students and 400 technical secondary school students. Most of the first 500 students enrolled graduated on schedule, and some were transferred to junior college classes, with 2240 students in school.

In the second half of 1961, the government of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region decided to cancel the then Nanning Geological College, Tianyang Coal and Petroleum Industry School and Peace Guixi Bay Branch, and transferred the students, some teaching staff and equipment to the school, which was renamed "Guangxi Mining College".
In July 1963, the school was renamed as "Guilin Metallurgical Geology School" after the Ministry of Metallurgical Industry took back its direct leadership. In addition to retaining the original geology and geophysical exploration majors, it added geochemical exploration majors, and other majors stopped enrollment.
In October 1970, with the approval of the State Council, the Ministry of Metallurgical Industry decided to move the Beijing Institute of Geology to Guilin and merge with the school, which was renamed "Guangxi Metallurgical Geology School".
In March 1971, with the approval of the government of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, the school was renamed "Guilin Institute of Metallurgical Geology".
On December 28, 1978, the State Council approved the transformation of Guangxi Metallurgical Geology School into Guilin Metallurgical Geology College on the original basis.The establishment of the School of Geology marks the beginning of a new historical stage of the school.Since then, the school has carried out a series of major reforms in teaching, scientific research, logistics, industry and other aspects.
In 1983, the Ministry of Metallurgy and China Nonferrous Metals Industry Corporation were set up separately, and the college was under the leadership of China Nonferrous Metals Industry Corporation.

In December 1993, the college was renamed as "Guilin Institute of Technology" after being reviewed and approved by the former National Education Commission.Since then, the college has entered a new development period.In December 1998, the college was once again decentralized to the local government, where the central and local governments were jointly responsible, and the daily management was mainly local.
In 1999, Nanning School of Nonferrous Metals Industry was incorporated into Guilin Institute of Technology (now Nanning Branch of Guilin University of Technology).
In 2004, Guilin Normal School for Nationalities was incorporated into Guilin Institute of Technology.[8-9]

In 1935, Guangxi Provincial Special Education Teachers Training Institute was founded.
In 1942, Guangxi Provincial Special Education Teachers Training Institute was renamed Guangxi Provincial Guiling Normal School.
In 1951, Guangxi Guiling Normal School was renamed as Guangxi Normal School for Nationalities, and in the same year, it was renamed as Guangxi Guilin Normal School for Nationalities.
In 1954, Guilin No. 8 Primary School was incorporated into Guangxi Guilin Normal School for Nationalities (now the primary school affiliated to Guilin University of Technology).
In 1958, Guilin Normal School for Nationalities in Guangxi Province was renamed Guilin Normal School for Nationalities.[1]
On February 11, 2010, the Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council approved Guilin University of Technology to implement the project establishment and construction plan of new doctoral degree awarding units from 2008 to 2015.
On January 29, 2013, it successfully passed the acceptance of the project establishment and construction doctoral degree awarding unit, and obtained three first level discipline doctoral degree authorization points.

Scientific research achievements
