The school dates back to the provincial Guangxi University founded in 1928 and theGuangxi Provincial Teachers CollegeIn 1936, the Provincial Teachers College was incorporated and renamed in 1939National Guangxi UniversityIn 1941, Guilin Normal University was rebuilt, and in 1943, it was promoted to the national levelGuilin Normal University。Re merged in 1950Guangxi University。In 1953, the original Guangxi University was suspended, and Guangxi Normal University was established on the basis of some teachers of its College of Arts and Education, College of Science and all students of its specialized teacher training courses.It was renamed Guangxi Normal University in 1983.[6]
By January 2024, the school has three campuses, Wangcheng, Yucai and Yanshan, covering an area of nearly 4000 mu, with a collection of 3835888 paper books and 2766137 electronic books;It has 21 teaching colleges (departments) and 75 undergraduate majors;It has 8 first-class discipline doctoral programs, 1 professional doctoral program, 7 post doctoral research mobile stations, 29 first-class discipline master programs, and 24 master degree authorization programs;There are more than 71000 students and more than 4000 teaching staff (including retirees).[6]

Guangxi has higher education. Since the Wuxu period of the Qing Dynasty, the hall was located outside Wenchang, Guilin.In the 25th year of Guangxu period (1899), Governor Huang Huaisen built the School of Physical Education. In 1902, Governor Ding Zhenduo revised the School of Physical Education to Guangxi University.[6][9]

At the end of June 1936, the Guangxi Provincial Government ordered the Guangxi Higher Normal College to be closed and merged intoNational Guangxi University, renamed School of Grammar and Law of Guangxi University.The provincial medical college was merged into the Medical College of Guangxi University, and the two colleges of science and engineering were merged into the College of Science and Engineering of Guangxi University.

In January 1941, the Ministry of Education agreed to change the School of Grammar and Law of National Guangxi University into the School of Law and Business;In October, the Guangxi Provincial Government decided to rebuild Guangxi Teachers College;In November, Guangxi was established and rebuilt on the site of Guangxi Education Research Institute in Dongling Street, Guilin City (now diagonally opposite the Crescent Building in Seven Star Park)Teachers CollegePreparatory Office;New students enter the school in December.
In February 1942, the teachers' college moved from Dongling Street in Guilin to Liuhe Road in Dongjiang;On April 1, the Guangxi Provincial Government approved the merger of Guangxi Normal College and Guangxi Institute of Education, renamed Guangxi Provincial Guilin Normal College.[10]
On August 1, 1943, the college was ordered by the Ministry of Education to change Guilin Normal University from a provincial college to a national collegeGuilin Normal University, directly under the Ministry of Education, was one of the only six national normal colleges in the country at that time, and merged three specialized subjects of Guangxi University, namely, Chinese, history, geography, mathematics, physics and chemistry.During the Anti Japanese War, there were 38 national universities and colleges.Guangxi University and Guilin Normal University were among them.[10]
Counter-Japanese WarDuring the period, the National Guilin Normal University, together with the National Southwest Normal University and the National Kunming Normal University, became three famous teachers' colleges in the anti Japanese rear area, and was known as the "democratic fortress in the southwest".Yang Dongchun, Xue Muqiao, Chen Wangdao, Ouyang Yuqian, Lin Liru, Chen Hansheng, Xia Zhengnong, Zeng Zuozhong, Zhang Yunying, Xie Houfan, Chen Bokang, Lin Huanping and a number of other celebrities have taught in the school.
In June 1944, Guilin began emergency evacuation. The National Guilin Normal University moved to Chang'an Town, Liuzhou, Pingyue, Guizhou and other places on the order of the Ministry of Education.
In November 1945, the National Guilin Normal University applied to the Guangxi Provincial Government for moving to Wangcheng (the former site of the provincial government) to run a school and was approved.[11]

In March 1946, the Ministry of Education of the National Government issued a Yugao Zi 13841 order, ordering the National Guilin Normal College (including the attached middle school) to move to Nanning, and renamed the National Guilin Normal College as the National Nanning Normal College.
In February 1950, the National Nanning Normal University was incorporated into Guangxi University on the order of the People's Government of Guangxi Province, and temporarily retained the organizational structure of the Normal College, becoming the Normal College of Guangxi University;In the second half of the same year, Guangxi University adjusted its departments, and the normal college of Guangxi University was abolished, and the College of Culture and Education was established.[12]

In July 1953, the Guilin Branch of the Central South District College Department Adjustment Committee prepared to build Guangxi Normal College based on the five junior colleges of Guangxi University, namely, Chinese, history, mathematics, physics and chemistry;In October, Guangxi Normal College (preparatory) was changed toGuangxi Normal University(Preparation);In November, according to the notice of the Ministry of Education of the Central Committee, the school was named "Guangxi Normal University".On the 25th, the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China decided to swap the campus of Guangxi Normal University with the special school of the Southwest Military Region of the Chinese People's Liberation Army located in Wangcheng.[13-14]
In July 1954, Guangxi Normal University and Guangxi Teachers Training College (nowNanning Normal University）The school was moved from Jiangjunqiao to the old imperial city in the city to run a school, and the work of school relocation was completed on August 2.[7][15]
In 1976, the school set up a branch (today's Yucai Campus) at Sanlidian in the eastern suburb of Guilin.[16]
In 1981, with the approval of the State Council, the university was approved as one of the first batch of master's degree awarding units in China.[17]

In May 1983, the People's Government of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region decided to change the name of Guangxi Normal University to Guangxi Normal University.
On November, 1986, Guangxi Normal University Press was established.[18]
In December 2005, Guangxi Normal University built Yanshan Campus in Yanshan Town, Yanshan District, Guilin City.
In October 2007, Yanshan Campus of Guangxi Normal University was put into use.[16]
In 2008, he was awarded an excellent grade in the undergraduate teaching evaluation of the Ministry of Education, and passed the 2016 undergraduate teaching review and evaluation of the Ministry of Education with excellent results.[6]
In June 2009, Guangxi Normal University Press Group was officially established, which is the first local university press group in China and the first publishing group in Guangxi.[20]
On August 2015, the People's Government of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region and the Ministry of Education jointly signed the opinion on the joint construction of Guangxi Normal University, and Guangxi Normal University officially entered the ranks of provincial and ministerial universities.[21-22]
In 2016, the first national key laboratory jointly built by the province and the ministry of Guangxi settled in Guangxi Normal University.[23]
In July 2017, the university was identified as the second batch of demonstration universities to deepen innovation and entrepreneurship education reform in China.[24]
In May 2018, it was selected as a first-class discipline construction university in Guangxi.[5]

As of January 2024, the university has established cooperation and exchange relations with more than 350 universities and institutions in the world.There are 3 Confucius Institutes and 1 Confucius Classroom overseas.It is a demonstration base for the Ministry of Education to study in China, a Chinese language education base of the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of the State Council, an international cultural exchange base for overseas Chinese, and a talent training unit of the Ministry of Education's "Chinese Government Scholarship", "International Chinese Teacher Scholarship", and the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region Government's "ASEAN Scholarship for Overseas Students".In the past decade, it has received nearly 16000 short-term and long-term international students from more than 80 countries.In 2018, it passed the quality certification of studying in China by the Ministry of Education.The Wangcheng and Yucai campuses were once the school running sites of Vietnamese schools. From here, more than 10 Vietnamese national leaders and more than 40 Vietnamese provincial and ministerial leaders have come out. At present, they are the universities that receive and train the most Vietnamese students in China, and the only universities in China that have established Confucius Institutes in Vietnam.The school is committed to building an international characteristic platform. Wangcheng carrier gate
The Wangcheng Chengyun Gate, named after the meaning of "Fengtian Chengyun", was the location of King Jingjiang's Mansion in the Ming Dynasty. It was changed to Guangxi Gongyuan in the Qing Dynasty, with four top scholars (Chen Jichang, Long Qirui, Zhang Jianxun, Liu Fuyao), one top ranking person (Yu Jianzhang), 585 Jinshi, and 1685 Juren. It is an important town of Chinese imperial examination culture.In the early years of the Republic of China, it was rebuilt as Zhongshan Park.From 1936 to 1949, it was the seat of Guangxi Provincial Government during the Republic of China, and since 1954, it has been the seat of Wangcheng Campus of Guangxi Normal University.The King City of Guilin is a national key cultural relics protection unit and a national 5A tourist attraction.[73]

Duxiu Peak is named after Yan Yanzhi, a litterateur in the Southern Dynasty, who wrote a beautiful sentence: "If you are not alone, you will be between Emei and Emei". It is 216 meters above sea level, 66 meters high and has 306 steps.There are four characters "Purple Robe and Gold Belt" on the rock wall, so it is also called "Purple Mountain" and "South Sky Pillar".[74]

The Guiliu Ancient Canal was built in the first year of Changshou in the Tang Dynasty (AD 692), with a total length of 15 kilometers, connecting the Lijiang River and the Liujiang River.The Acacia River running through the Yanshan campus is the most intact section of the Guiliu Ancient Canal, a vivid reflection of ecological civilization and a living fossil of history.[121]
