Tianjin Normal University was founded in 1958, formerly known as Tianjin Normal University.The history of normal education inherited by the school can be traced back to Beiyang Normal School established in 1906, Tianjin Industrial and Commercial University established in 1921 and Tianjin Municipal Normal School established in 1930.In 1982, it was renamed Tianjin Normal University.In April 1999, the former Tianjin Normal University, Tianjin Normal CollegeTianjin Institute of EducationThe new Tianjin Normal University was incorporated.[3]
As of November 2023, the campus of the school covers an area of 3500 mu, including 771 mu of natural lakes and wetlands, with a building area of 850800 square meters, 95800 square meters of Beijing Tianjin Hebei Education Collaborative Training Base will be built and renovated, and nearly 4 million books will be collected in the library;It has two departments, 20 colleges and 74 undergraduate majors;9center for post-doctoral studies 11 first level disciplines authorized for doctoral degree, 1 professional doctoral degree authorization point, 33 first level disciplines authorized for master's degree, and 16 professional master's degree authorization categories;There are 2540 teaching staff and 35087 full-time students, including 26318 undergraduate students, 6227 master students, 742 doctoral students and 1082 international students.[2]

In May 1958, the Tianjin Municipal Party Committee and the Tianjin Municipal People's Committee established Tianjin Teachers' Training College from five units, namely, the teacher training class of Tianjin Normal University, Tianjin Teachers' College (established in 1952), the Marxism Leninism Amateur College for primary and secondary school teachers (established in 1954), and the Teaching and Research Section of Tianjin Municipal Education Bureau, and merged the Tianjin Teachers' Training College under preparation with Tianjin Industrial and Agricultural High School,On September 10, Tianjin Normal University was established and located in Liulitai. Ren Ziyong, deputy director of Tianjin Education Bureau, served as the president,WuxingSecretary of the Party Committee and administratively under the Tianjin Municipal Education Bureau.
In August 1959, Hebei Province and Tianjin City decided to adjust colleges and universities, and transferred all students, some teachers and cadres of Tianjin Normal University to Tianjin Normal University.The remaining teachers, cadres and key teachers from Tianjin Middle School will set up Tianjin Teachers College.
In May 1960, the CPC Tianjin Municipal Committee and the Municipal People's Committee approved the restoration of Tianjin Normal College to Tianjin Normal University, and appointedZhang JianxinSecretary of the Party Committee and President Ren Ziyong.Teachers who were previously transferred to Tianjin Normal University returned to Tianjin Normal University, and some students from departments and classes also returned to Tianjin Normal University.Each department and major has been greatly adjusted and expanded.
In 1961, Tianjin Industrial and Agricultural Normal College was abolished and incorporated into Tianjin Normal University.
In 1962, Tianjin Normal University was suspended from running the Department of Journalism and merged the Department of Geography of Hebei University into the school in accordance with the policy of the central government to adjust and rectify.
In 1964, the Department of Biology was suspended, and teachers and students were merged into the Department of Biology of Hebei University;The Department of History of Tianjin Normal University was merged into the Department of Politics and Education, and later renamed the Department of Politics and History.
In September 1970, the Tianjin Revolutionary Committee decided to merge Tianjin Normal University, Tianjin Physical Education Institute and Hebei Foreign Language College to form a new normal college.
In 1975, Tianjin decided to merge Tianjin Teachers' Training College into Tianjin Normal University and change its name to the Training Department of Tianjin Normal University;
On June 14, 1982, Tianjin Normal University was renamed Tianjin Normal University.
On August 21, 1992, the campus of Nankai University was renamed as the School of Applied Arts of Tianjin Normal University.On August 30, 1996, the College of Applied Arts of Tianjin Normal University was incorporated into Tianjin Normal University.
Consolidated development
On April 8, 1999, the new Tianjin Normal University was officially established with the decision of the Tianjin Municipal Party Committee and the Tianjin Municipal Government and the consent of the Ministry of Education.The new Tianjin Normal University was established on the basis of the original Tianjin Normal University, Tianjin Normal College and Tianjin Institute of Education.
In 2021, the university will become a national education power to promote the construction of high-quality normal universities.[82]On September 7, it was identified by the Ministry of Education as the second batch of pilot units for AI assisted teacher team building.[63]
In 2022, it was selected into the list of Tianjin Intangible Cultural Heritage Research Base.[74]In February, the Ministry of Education announced the list of collaborative innovation centers jointly built by provinces and ministries in 2021, and Tianjin Normal University's "National Mental Health Assessment and Promotion Collaborative Innovation Center" was successfully selected, which will rely on the school for a four-year construction。[64]
In May 2024, the Think Tank Development Institute of Tianjin Normal University was established.[93]
