In April 1949, Dalian University College of Engineering was founded.

In July 1950, the organizational system of Dalian University was abolished, and the university became independent Dalian Institute of Technology 。

In October 1960, the school was identified as ministry of education Directly under the National Key University.

In February 1978, the university was re determined as a national key university directly under the Ministry of Education.

In June 1980, the school became one of the first key universities to set up a class for ethnic minorities and implement targeted enrollment by the Ministry of Education.^[93]

In November 1981, after the state council Approved, the university became one of the first batch of doctoral and master degree awarding units in China.^[2]

In April 1986, the school set up a graduate school.
