As of March 2024, the school has a total land area of 8261 mu, including 4457 mu of Tianhe Wushan School Headquarters, 3804 mu of Zengcheng Teaching and Research Base, and a total building area of 1.4 million square meters;There are 25 colleges (departments) with 98 undergraduate majors;It has 12 post doctoral research mobile stations, 13 first level disciplines authorized for doctoral degrees, 2 categories of doctoral professional degrees, 29 first level disciplines authorized for master's degrees, and 20 categories of master's professional degrees;There are 3390 teaching staff, including 2626 full-time teachers;There are more than 50000 students (including international students) on campus, including more than 37000 undergraduate students and more than 12000 graduate students.[1][75]
In October 1908, Guangdong Quanyedao appointed Doctor of AgricultureTang YouhengPrepare to build Guangdong Provincial Agricultural Experiment Field, which is attached with an agricultural workshop.
In 1909, Guangdong Provincial Agricultural Experiment Field was established. Tang Youheng was appointed as the director of Guangdong Provincial Agricultural Experiment Field and supervised by the agricultural instructor workshop. The site of the farm was located in Waiou Village, Dongmen, Guangzhou.
In April 1910, the Agricultural Institute officially enrolled students.In May, the training center was ordered to be changed into an agricultural teacher training center, and the school level was "the same as that of a higher school".
In 1912, the Agricultural Institute was renamed as the Higher Agricultural and Forestry Institute.
In 1917, Guangdong Public Agricultural Special School was established on the basis of higher agricultural and forestry workshops.
In August 1921, the forestry discipline was added for four years.
In June 1924, Guangdong University was jointly established with Guangdong Normal University and Guangdong University of Law and Politics as the College of Agriculture.[2]
In July 1926, Guangdong University was renamedNational Sun Yat sen UniversityAnd became the Department of Agriculture of Sun Yat sen University.
In 1930, it was the College of Agricultural Sciences of Sun Yat sen University.
In 1931, it was changed into the Agricultural College of Sun Yat sen University.[3]
Agricultural College of Lingnan University
On September 3, 1916, the Department of Agriculture of Lingnan University was established, affiliated with the University of Arts and Sciences, with a four-year undergraduate system, and Gao Lufu as the president.[4]
In 1921, Deputy School SupervisorZhong RongguangIt applied to the Guangdong Provincial Government for the establishment of Lingnan Agricultural University, which was approved. It consists of the Ministry of Education, the Experimental Department, the Business Department and the Promotion Department (the Ministry of Agriculture).The Ministry of Education has set up five departments, namely, field art department, horticulture department, animal husbandry department, sericulture department and agricultural product manufacturing department.The undergraduate education lasts for four years.
In November 1923, Governor of Guangdong ProvinceLiao ZhongkaiIt is hereby entrusted to set up the "Guangdong Silk Improvement Bureau" in the campus of Agricultural University on the basis of this department, and to appoint Kao Huo, the director of the former sericulture department, as the director.[5]
In 1927, the central government issued the rules for filing private schools, and Lingnan Agricultural University became a college of Lingnan University.The college offers a 4-year general agricultural course with a bachelor of science degree. The college also has a 3-year vocational class.[6-7]
In 1940, Lingda decided to move the Agricultural College back to Pingshi in northern Guangdong.On November 13, a total of 30 students in the third and fourth grades of the Agricultural College started classes in Pingshi.In August 1941, according to the order of the Ministry of Education, the Agricultural College set up the Department of Agronomy and the Department of Horticulture.In January 1942, the freshmen and sophomores of the Agricultural College came to meet from Hong Kong.From 1944 to 1945, Lingda Agricultural College moved to Xianren TempleHunanRuchengandMeixian County。
In 1949, the College of Agriculture expanded the original plant pathology laboratory and established the Department of Plant Pathology.

In 1958, Guangdong Forestry University was separated from South China Agricultural University and Hunan Forestry University to run its own school.
In 1963, Hunan Forestry University moved to Guangzhou and merged with the Forestry Department of South China Agricultural UniversityCentral South Forestry University(now Central South University of Forestry Science and Technology), directly under the administration of the Ministry of Forestry.
In October 1970, South China Agricultural University and Central South Forestry University were merged into“Guangdong Agriculture and Forestry University”National key construction.
In 1974, the school moved from Guangzhou to Xupu County, Hunan Province and changed its name to Hunan Forestry University.[10]
In 1975, the "Guangdong Agriculture and Forestry University" was split, and the two schools ran independently.
In September 1977, the school was renamed "South China Agricultural College".
In 1979, the university was listed as a national key university by the State Council, directly under the Ministry of Agriculture.

In December 2004, South China Agricultural University was rated as excellent in the undergraduate teaching evaluation of the Ministry of Education.[12]

On May 10, 2011, the opening ceremony of "Blood Sample Collection Point of Guangdong Provincial Management Center of China Hematopoietic Stem Cell Donor Database" was held in South China Agricultural University.South China Agricultural University has become the first blood sample collection point for hematopoietic stem cell donors set up by Guangdong Branch of China Bone Marrow Bank in colleges and universities.[43]At the end of the year, he was selected as a public postgraduate project of national construction of high-level universities.
In June 2012, the People's Government of Guangdong Province and the Ministry of Agriculture jointly established South China Agricultural University.[14]

Tianhe Wushan Campus covers an area of 4457 mu[1]Located in the center of Guangzhou, it is adjacent to the subway in the south and the passenger transport in the west. The subway line 3 has 5 stops directly to Pearl River New City. Zengcheng Teaching and Research Base
Zengcheng Teaching and Research Base is located at 108 Taixin Road, Ningxi Street, Zengcheng District, Guangzhou, covering an area of 3804 mu.
