The predecessor of the school is Gansu Provincial Polytechnic School founded in 1919; In 1958, on the basis of establishing Lanzhou Institute of Technology, Gansu Jiaotong University was merged and named Gansu University of Technology; In 1965, the school was under the jurisdiction of the First Ministry of Machinery Industry. At the same time, the hydraulic machinery, chemical machinery, petroleum mining machinery and welding process and equipment specialties of Northeast Heavy Machinery Institute and Beijing Institute of Machinery were moved into the school, and a group of teachers from Hunan University and Hefei University of Technology were transferred to work in the school; In 1998, it was transformed into an institution "co built by the central and local governments, with local management as the main focus"; In 2003, it was renamed Lanzhou University of Technology.^[2]

Gansu Provincial Polytechnic School

In May 1919, Gansu Provincial Department established Gansu Provincial Polytechnic School.

In 1921, it was restructured into Gansu Provincial Type A Industrial School.

In 1924, it was the Gansu Provincial Industrial School.

In 1927, it was established as an engineering vocational school in Gansu Province.

In 1929, it was the No. 1 Industrial School in Gansu Province.

In 1936, it was established as Lanzhou Industrial Vocational School in Gansu Province.

In 1944, it was renamed Lanzhou Advanced Industrial Vocational School in Gansu Province.

On August 26, 1949, Lanzhou declared its liberation, and Gansu Province established Lanzhou Senior Industrial Vocational School.^[5]

Lanzhou Industrial School of Gansu Province

In November 1952, with the approval of the Ministry of Education of the Northwest Military and Political Commission, the school was renamed Lanzhou Industrial School of Gansu Province (hereinafter referred to as "Lanzhou Industrial School"), which was under the leadership of the Department of Industry of Gansu Province.

In 1954, the school was under the leadership of the Ministry of Motor Manufacturing Industry.

In 1956, the Ministry of Urban Construction and the Ministry of Motor Manufacturing Industry negotiated and decided to separate the civil engineering department from Lanzhou Institute of Technology, and establish another Lanzhou Urban Construction Engineering School led by the Ministry of Urban Construction Industry and managed by the General Administration of Urban Construction. In addition, capital construction funds were invested to level the school site and build the first teaching building (now Building 7).

In 1952, with the approval of Gansu Provincial Department of Industry and Lanzhou Municipal Government Qilihe District Langongping has allocated 420 mu of land to build permanent school buildings.

In October 1953, 24 third grade students and 8 teaching staff of the Textile Department were merged into Shaanxi Xianyang Textile Industrial School. In September of the same year, Qin'an 、 Lintao The chemical engineering department of the two counties' industrial schools was merged into the school.

In the second half of 1954, through the joint efforts of all teachers and students, the school moved from the old site of Cuiyingmen to the new site of Langongping.^[5]

Gansu University of Technology

In April 1958, the CPC Gansu Provincial Committee decided to transform the school into Lanzhou Institute of Technology; In September of the same year, the CPC Gansu Provincial Committee and the Provincial People's Committee decided to incorporate Gansu Jiaotong University into Lanzhou Institute of Technology and establish Gansu University of Technology ； In October of the same year, Gansu University of Technology was officially named.

In March 1965, the school was incorporated The First Ministry of Machinery Industry of the People's Republic of China 。 Harbin Institute of Technology Fularji Campus (former Northeast Heavy Machinery College ）The professional reconstruction system of hydraulic machinery, chemical machinery, petroleum mining machinery, welding technology and equipment of Beijing Institute of Machinery moved to the school, and Hunan University 、 Hefei Polytechnic University And other key universities to transfer a batch of excellent basic course teachers to enrich the school faculty.

In 1971, the school began to enroll workers, peasants and soldiers. It enrolled 382 students in 7 majors, including machinery manufacturing, casting, welding, hydraulic machinery, hydraulic transmission, chemical machinery, industrial and civil architecture, with a three-year schooling. By 1976, the school had enrolled seven sessions of students, with a total of 2020 students (including pilot classes for workers).

In 1981, the Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council approved the university as one of the first batch of units to confer master's and bachelor's degrees in China, and the discipline of fluid machinery and fluid power processing has the right to confer master's degrees; 10 majors including mechanism, casting, welding, heat treatment, water machinery, hydraulic, mining machinery, chemical machinery, industrial enterprises, and industrial and civil construction have the right to award bachelor's degrees.

In August 1998, the school was founded by Ministry of Machine-Building Industry of the PRC The leadership has been transformed into a university "co built by the central and local governments, with local management as the main focus".

In 2000, the school began to prepare for the construction of the West Campus.^[5]

In April 2003, with the approval of the Ministry of Education, the school was renamed Lanzhou University of Technology.

In December 2012, Southeast University supported Lanzhou University of Technology; In the same year, the selected countries“ Plan for Revitalizing Higher Education in Central and Western China ”Key universities.

In March 2013, the Graduate School of Lanzhou University of Technology was established; In September of the same year, in Gansu Province jiuquan Set up a new campus and jointly build the New Energy College of Lanzhou University of Technology with Jiuquan Municipal Government; In the same year, Wenzhou Graduate School of Lanzhou University of Technology was established.
