Recently, RN Vankor, a subsidiary of Rosneft, held the Arctic Ecological Forum in Krasnoyarsk. Krasnoyarsk Border Region is located in the Far East Siberia region of Russia, which is the main development area of the East Oil Project of Rosneft. This forum is an important annual event, which builds an open communication platform for enterprises and government officials, the scientific community and local residents, helps all parties to carry out fruitful dialogue, and jointly discusses how to better protect the fragile Arctic ecosystem and the traditional lifestyle of Tamil indigenous people.
In the round table held by the Forum, representatives from government agencies and public organizations, scientists and environmentalists gathered together to discuss the grant plan of Rosneft Vankol Oil Company, which aims to support practical scientific, environmental and social research in the Tamerdorgano Nenets region, protect the local ecological environment and benefit local indigenous people.
The biologists from the Russian Arctic Shelf Development Research and Design Center attended the forum and introduced to the guests the comprehensive ecological plan jointly implemented with the Russian Ministry of Natural Resources, as well as the new direction for Rosneft to carry out biological monitoring in the north of Krasnoyarsk border area. Representatives of RN Shelf Arctic, another subsidiary of Rosneft, shared best practice cases on the protection of northern flora listed in the Red Book of the Russian Federation and the Nenets Autonomous Region.
Another important activity of the forum is the "Reindeer Herdsmen's Day" held with the support of the oil workers in Nuosok Village, the local Nenets City. The Nenets, known as "reindeer herders", are a people living in the Arctic region of Russia. Almost 90% of the local 2000 residents are Nenets aborigines. In this grand event of "reindeer herders day", about 300 local residents participated in reindeer sled race, folk triple jump, stick tug of war, lasso harness driving reindeer team stick and sledge jumping and other traditional events, as well as national costume display competition, and presented traditional ethnic dishes to the participants. Rosneft Vankol provided exquisite gifts for the participants.
