In the presence of ATP, negative superhelix can be introduced into the enzyme in double stranded circular DNA. It is composed of two subunits, one of which has the function of cutting DNA to form a gap and closing the gap, and the other has the function of hydrolyzing ATP to provide the energy required to form a super helix. It is involved in DNA replication, transcription, repair and recombination.
