Wanning has become the largest areca planting area in Hainan and even in China due to its unique climate, sufficient sunshine and fertile soil. In October 2011, Wanning was awarded the title of "Hometown of Areca in China" by the State Forestry Administration, and was also recognized as "National Areca Demonstration Base". The Wanning Municipal Government has vigorously supported the development of the betel nut industry, moving from the betel nut planted by every household to the base and standardized large-scale planting.
There are 262 farmers, cooperatives and small and micro enterprises engaged in primary processing of betel nut in Wanning, and more than 8600 sets of environmental protection equipment for drying betel nut have been built, with an annual production capacity of 470000 tons of fresh fruit. The primary processing products of areca are mainly sold to Hunan areca deep-processing enterprises. Among them, Flavor King, an enterprise, has purchased 70% of the annual areca fruit in Wanning, which is the largest purchaser of Wanning areca. No wonder growers will say, "Ten are good for Wanning, and seven are for Flavor King."
At the promotion meeting, Wanning City and Flavor King Group signed a strategic cooperation agreement on the spot. This will promote the further upgrading of green fruit technology, and at the same time drive Wanning Areca to promote industrial development and farmers' employment in the way of enterprise parks, so as to jointly create Wanning characteristic areca industry brand.
