Deep processing of agricultural products is one of the three leading industries in Xiangtan Tianyi Demonstration Zone, and areca industry accounts for half of the total. The industry has made great contributions to tax revenue and employment. With concern and attention to the development of betel nut industry in Xiangtan County and Xiangtan Tianyi Demonstration Zone, Chen Xiaoshan, vice mayor, came to Tianyi Demonstration Zone on December 14 to investigate the development of betel nut industry. Tang Renguang, deputy county head, and Tang Zhengyao, member of the Party Working Committee and deputy director of the Management Committee of the Demonstration Zone, participated in the survey.
During the survey, Chen Xiaoshan and his delegation visited three large betel nut enterprises, Pang Ge, Xiao Long Wang and Wu Zizui. Through inspecting the betel nut processing production line and listening to the introduction of the enterprise leader, they learned in detail the development status of the betel nut industry in Xiangtan County and the bottleneck problems encountered.
It is understood that betel nut industry is the industry with the most distinctive industrial characteristics, the most complete industrial chain, the highest industrial contribution and the most significant pulling effect in the park. At present, three of the six leading areca enterprises in the province have settled in Tianyi. The supporting enterprises, such as fragrance, packaging and logistics, which focus on the development of betelnut, have also produced a gathering effect. In terms of employment, there are 60000 betel nut industry chain employees in the park, with an annual salary of about 3 billion yuan. At the same time, the economic and tax contributions are considerable. In 2014, there were 10 enterprises above the scale of the whole industrial chain in the park, with an output value of 6.67 billion yuan, accounting for 66.6% of the output value of the food processing industry, and the tax revenue accounted for 30.8% of the tax revenue of industrial enterprises in the park.
At the meeting, the leaders of the betel nut enterprises also introduced the future development prospects, market capacity, mechanization, and difficulties of the betel nut industry.
After listening to the report, Chen Xiaoshan, vice mayor of Xiangtan County, praised Xiangtan County for its concern and support for the development of enterprises and its efforts to make the food and medicine industry dominated by betel nuts become a 10 billion industry in the park. Chen Xiaoshan required that the leaders of Xiangtan County and all betel nut enterprises should speed up the construction of betel nut standard system, improve the quality of betel nut, and break through the image of betel nut; It is necessary to upgrade the processing technology, develop towards modern processing, and promote the healthy development of betel nut industry.
