Rizhao Port was started in 1982 and opened in 1986. It has 76 productive berths and more than 80 domestic and foreign trade container routes. It is an important transit base for energy and bulk raw materials in the world. The throughput of iron ore, soybeans, petroleum coke and other seven goods ranks first in China.

In recent years, Rizhao Port has vigorously promoted the intelligent and green development of the port and built the world's first open and fully automated container terminal along the shore, with the single unit efficiency increased by 50% and the comprehensive cost reduced by 70%.
