On the afternoon of May 17, Senior Colonel Zhang Xiaogang, Deputy Director of the Information Bureau of the Ministry of National Defense and spokesman of the Ministry of National Defense, released news on recent military related issues.

Reporter: Philippine President recently claimed that he has no intention of provoking or exacerbating tensions in the South China Sea and will not use water cannon or any offensive equipment to attack anyone. However, the media reported that in this year's joint performance of the United States and the Philippines "shoulder to shoulder", an aircraft carrier model with the shape of a suspected "Liaoning Ship" appeared on the sand table, and a drill was also organized to sink a Chinese made ship. What is China's comment on this?

Zhang Xiaogang: The words and deeds of the Philippines are contradictory and self defeating. On the South China Sea issue, who is talking and doing the same thing? Who is taking the initiative to provoke and create trouble? Who is engaging in camp confrontation and intensifying tensions in the South China Sea? The world can see it clearly. As for the courses related to the US Philippines joint rehearsal, that is a typical Ah Q spirit victory method. The Chinese army has never been afraid of trouble. Anyone who wants to pull the tiger's skin and the flag and form cliques to coerce and pressure China is totally wrong. We warned the Philippines not to act rashly and stop all acts of infringement and provocation. China will continue to take resolute and decisive measures to safeguard its territorial sovereignty and maritime rights and interests and safeguard peace and stability in the South China Sea.
