Didn't IELTS write pound sign to deduct points

During the IELTS test, most of the students are in a state of extreme nervousness and will inevitably make some small mistakes. The most common one is to forget the currency symbol in front of the number. So does this behavior affect scores? Will it lead to points deduction? The old roast duck will give you a detailed explanation.

The question of pound sign mainly appears in the IELTS listening test. Influenced by some irresponsible institutional teachers or articles, many students think that when the IELTS listening test reaches the number of money, the answer card should be marked with symbols in addition to numbers, otherwise the score will be deducted. This statement is totally wrong. In most cases, you don't need to write the pound sign yourself. There are two reasons.

First, logically speaking, when IELTS Listening examines the amount of money, it is unprecedented to have given the corresponding currency symbol (occasionally, the currency unit is given when there is time). You just need to fill in the number. If you write the currency symbol again, it will repeat the content given in the previous topic, but it is not good.

Second, from a practical point of view, you can look at the answers given in the back of the Cambridge IELTS books. This article comes from the old roast duck IELTS, which best reflects the official requirements of IELTS for writing answers. After a little research, we will find that these numbers do not have any symbols in front of them, nor do they have any units behind them. Therefore, you don't have to worry about the deduction of points if you don't write the pound sign in the examination room.

However, there are exceptions to what is mentioned above. If you get the number of money in the short answer question, you must write the currency symbol yourself. This is because the title does not give corresponding things and we need to complete it ourselves. This statement can be supported by question 16 of Cambridge IELTS 5 test 2 section 2. However, there are very few simple questions now, so we need not worry too much.

Therefore, there is no need to worry about the absence of pound sign in IELTS. In most cases, there is no impact.
