History of Southwest University of Political Science and Law
On March 11, 1950, the Southwest Military and Political Commission called the Propaganda Department of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and transferred it to the Government Affairs Council, proposing to establish the Southwest People's Revolutionary University. The Central Government Affairs Council immediately called back and agreed to establish the UniversitySouthwest People's Revolutionary University。On March 25, the university was organized at the former site of the Eighth Route Army Office in Hongyan Village, Chongqing, and began to recruit students.On May 14, the inaugural ceremony of the Southwest People's Revolutionary University and the first phase of its opening ceremony was heldone of the Ten Great MarshalsThe marshal served as the headmaster.
Combining Western Politics
In 1953Southwest People's Revolutionary UniversityOn the basis of the Department of Political Science and Law, the law school (department) that merged Chongqing University, Sichuan University, Guizhou University, Yunnan University and Chongqing University of Finance and Economics was officially listed to establish the Southwest Institute of Political Science and Law. General Zhou Baozhong, the former commander in chief of the Second Route Army of the Northeast Anti Japanese Allied Army, served as the first president.At the beginning of its establishment, the school was appointed as the head of the Southwest BureauDeng Xiaoping, Liu Bocheng and other proletarian revolutionaries of the older generation,Guo MoruoMr. A inscribed the name of the school.

Since its establishment, the school has successively experiencedMinistry of Justice, Sichuan Provincesupreme people 's court, the Ministry of Justice, etc. changed their affiliation for many times, and they were once forced to suspend their operations during the "Cultural Revolution".
In 1977, with the approval of the State Council, Southwest University of Political Science and Law was the first of its kind in the country to reopen.
In 1978, it was approved by the State Council as one of the first batch of national key universities and the only key university among the political science and law schools under the Ministry of Justice.
In 1993, it became an authorized unit for doctoral degree.

In 1995, the university was renamed Southwest University of Political Science and Law.
In 1999, it was selected into the first batch of national college students' cultural quality education bases.[4]
In 2000, it was directly under the Ministry of Justice and transferred to the Chongqing Municipal People's Government for management, and implemented the management model of co construction between the central and local governments, with local governments as the mainstay.[5]
In 2001, the school began to build Yubei Campus in Liangjiang New Area
In 2003, it became one of the first batch of authorized units for doctorate degree of first level discipline of law.
In 2004, with the approval of the Ministry of Personnel, a mobile station for post doctoral research in law was set up.
In 2007, the office center of the school was moved from Shapingba Campus to Yubei Campus.
In 2008, Southwest University of Political Science and Law became a key university in Chongqing supported by the Ministry of Education.
In 2010, it was selected into the national "characteristic key discipline project" construction university.[6]
At the end of 2011, it was selected as a public postgraduate project of national construction of high-level universities.
In March 2012, approved by the Ministry of Education, it became a pilot university for independent enrollment.In October, the university entered the ranks of "ministerial and municipal co construction" universities.In November, it was selected into the first batch of the Ministry of Education and the Central Judicial and Legal CommissionEducation and Training Plan for Outstanding Legal Talents。[2][7]
In 2016, it was selected into the national "Basic Capacity Building Project for Universities in Central and Western China".[1]
In 2017, it was selected as a first-class discipline construction university in Chongqing.[1]
In April 2020, Southwest University of Political Science and Law was approved three double bachelor degree compound talent training projects, which is the first university in Chongqing to be approved for this project.On May 12, it was jointly launched with Sichuan University and other universitiesChengdu Chongqing Dual City Economic Circle University Alliance。In June, it launched and joined the Innovation Alliance for Legal Education.[9-11]On October 23, he joined the College Foreign Language Alliance of Chengdu Chongqing Economic Circle.[12]
In 2021, it will become an authorized unit for the doctoral degree of the first level discipline of national security science.[1]
On February 28, 2022, the Human Rights Institute of Southwest University of Political Science and Law held an unveiling ceremony, which is the first human rights institute established by a university in China.[34]On October 17, the Discipline Inspection and Supervision College of Southwest University of Political Science and Law was inauguratedstand.[39]
In March 2023, the Digital Rule of Law Government Research Institute of Southwest University of Political Science and Law was listedEstablishment.[49]On November 27, the Hongyan Xinhua Class of Southwest University of Political Science and Law opened in the School of Journalism and Communication.[62]
On March 30, 2024, the Institute of Comparative Criminal Law of Southwest University of Political Science and Law was established.[66]On April 22, the founding ceremony of the Advanced Institute of Criminal Defense of Southwest University of Political Science and Law was held in Yubei Campus of the university.[67]

Library of Southwest University of Political Science and Law
As of March 2022, the library of Southwest University of Political Science and Law mainly collects documents of law, covering all disciplines of the school such as politics, philosophy, economics, journalism and management, including more than 2.33 million printed documents,There are more than 100 Chinese and foreign language databases such as CNKI and Westlaw. The library has 17505 ancient book thread bound books, 605 rare ancient books, 20 ancient books included in the Chongqing Precious Ancient Books List, and Wei Suzhou Collection included in the National Precious Ancient Books List. It is one of the first batch of "Chongqing Key Ancient Books Protection Units".The library has self built five databases, including the Southwest University of Political Science and Law Thesis Database, the Republic of China Law Literature Database, the Republic of China and Ancient Books Database, the Institutional Knowledge Database, and the China ASEAN Law Literature Database. The Republic of China Law and Regulations Database system collects nearly 20000 laws and regulations during the Republic of China period.[24]

Founded in 1999, it is a comprehensive academic journal of social science, mainly focusing on law, hosted by Southwest University of Political Science and Law and publicly distributed at home and abroad. Its purpose is to timely disseminate creative research achievements in the field of law and other social sciences, and reflect the latest developments in the academic community;The main columns are: expert forum, theoretical frontier, contention and response, judicial practice, education and teaching, academic trends, etc. It is a full text journal included in the China Journal Full Text Database, and a full text journal included in the U.S. Ulrich International Journal Guide.
Modern Law
《Modern Law》Formerly known as the Journal of Southwest University of Political Science and Law, founded in 1979, it was one of the earliest legal theory journals in China at that time. In 1982, in order to meet the needs of national public distribution of this journal, it was renamed as the Quarterly Journal of Law, and in 1988, it was now called Modern Law (bimonthly).
Modern Law is in charge of Chongqing Municipal Education Commission and sponsored by Southwest University of Political Science and Law.The main columns are: theoretical thinking, opinion response, special research, comments;In August 2002, it was awarded the title of "The Second National Top 100 Social Sciences Journals" by the Chinese Society of Humanities and Social Sciences Journals. In January 2003, it was awarded the "The Second National Journals Award 100 Key Journals" by the State Press and Publication Administration. It is the highest government award in the periodical industry since the founding of the People's Republic of China. In April 2003, it was awarded the "Data Specification for Retrieval and Evaluation of Chinese Academic Journals (CD)"In December 2001, the first CAJ CD Standard Excellent Journal Award was awarded by the organization committee of the implementation evaluation activity. In the second periodical quality evaluation in Chongqing, it won the award of high-quality journal and the title of "Top Ten Periodicals" in Chongqing.

Meaning of the school emblem: the main picture of the emblem is the front view of Xiezhi (Zhi), which is composed of the first letters of the Chinese phonetic alphabet of Southwest University of Political Science and Law (the inner line of the two corners is X, the nose wing is N, the front single corner is Z, the right eye and the outer corner form F, and the nose wing is added with a horizontal line and N to form D).
