On April 18, 1906, the Qing government officially established the first formal normal school in Chongqing - the official schoolEast Sichuan Normal School。[3]
In 1914, the East Sichuan Normal School jointly established by 36 counties in East Sichuan was renamed "East Sichuan United County Normal School".
In 1916, the school was occupied by the army because of the winter holiday last year.In the spring of that year, the school was forced to rent Guanyinliang Chuanbang Mansion and nearby houses, and moved back to the original site in the autumn of the same year.
In the autumn of 1917, the school was occupied by the army and had to move toBaxian CountyConfucian Temple (Xuexue Street, now Hongxue Lane, Jiefang East Road, Yuzhong District).
In 1920, the garrison withdrew from the school and the school moved back to its original location again.[3]
In 1928, East Sichuan United County Normal School was on the verge of bankruptcy.Commander of the 21st ArmyLiu XiangDue to the financial difficulties of East Sichuan Normal School and the complicated situation of teachers and students, it was decided to suspend the school, so it was appointed to take over the post of Daoyin in East SichuanGan JiyongGo to the school to handle the closing matters.However, the school was strongly opposed by the teachers and students of the school and all sectors of the society. The principal, Gan Jiyong, held a maintenance meeting to discuss the problem of the school's preservation and abolition. In 1938, the private Jianhua Senior Agricultural Vocational School was founded.
In 1941, the private Jianhua Senior Agricultural Vocational School was renamed as Sichuan Lirongchang Senior Agricultural Vocational School.
In 1950, Sichuan Rongchang Senior Agricultural Vocational School was renamed as Rongchang Senior Agricultural Vocational School in East Sichuan.
In 1953, Rongchang Senior Agricultural Vocational School in East Sichuan was renamed Sichuan Rongchang Agricultural School.
In 1953, Rongchang Agricultural School (Agricultural Science) was incorporated into Chengdu Agricultural School.
In 1953, Sichuan Rongchang Agricultural School merged with the animal husbandry and veterinary medicine departments of Chengdu Agricultural School, Jiangyou Agricultural School, Daxian Agricultural School and Hejiang Agricultural School to form Sichuan Animal Husbandry and Veterinary School.

In 1960, the Citrus Research Institute of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences was established.

In February 2023, Professor Xu Luohao, the research team of the Key Laboratory of the Ministry of Education, School of Life Sciences, Southwest University, recently published a research paper entitled Evolutionary analysis of a complete chicken genome in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (PNAS), taking the lead in drawing the complete genome map of a domestic chicken internationally.[103]
