The former Suzhou Institute of Science and Technology was formed in September 2001 by merging the former Suzhou Institute of Urban Construction and Environmental Protection with the former Suzhou Railway Normal University. The former Suzhou Institute of Urban Construction and Environmental Protection Ministry of Construction Directly affiliated college, which was prepared in 1983 (the predecessor of Suzhou Construction Engineering School was founded in 1953). The former Suzhou Railway Normal University, a college directly under the Ministry of Railways, was founded in 1980 (its predecessor was Suzhou Railway Middle School, which was established in 1951). In 2000, the affiliation of the two schools was transferred to Jiangsu Province at the same time, and the school management system of "co construction of the central and local governments, focusing on local management" was implemented. In March 2016, the school was renamed Suzhou University of Science and Technology.^[1-2]

Suzhou Urban Construction and Environmental Protection College

In 1932, with the help of the Department of Civil Engineering of Zhejiang University, private Changzhou Middle School added a civil engineering department Jiaotong University 、 Beiyang University Our high-quality teachers have successively taught civil engineering, and trained more than 600 construction talents for the country.

Suzhou Construction Engineering School of Ministry of Construction

In 1953, the Suzhou Construction Engineering School of the Ministry of Construction Engineering was born, becoming one of the first special schools of construction established in New China.

In 1953, the Civil Engineering Department of Suzhou Advanced Industrial School and the Civil Engineering Department of Changzhou Private Middle School were integrated.

In 1958, Suzhou Construction Engineering School of the Ministry of Electric Power (Suzhou Electric Civil Engineering School of the Ministry of Fuel Industry) was incorporated as a whole.

In 1960, Suzhou Architecture and Engineering School was upgraded to Suzhou Urban Construction Institute.

In 1978, the National Construction Commission sent a letter to the Revolutionary Committee of Jiangsu Province, proposing to restore the former Suzhou Urban Construction Institute.

In 1980, the State Urban Construction Administration established the Preparatory Office of Suzhou Urban Construction College.

In December 1982, the State Council approved the establishment of the Institute of Urban Construction and Environmental Protection in Suzhou, and the preparation for its establishment began in 1983.

In 2015, it became one of the first universities to undertake foreign aid master degree education projects.

On April 10, 2017, with the approval of the Ministry of Housing and Urban Rural Development and the People's Government of Jiangsu Province, it was decided to jointly build Suzhou University of Science and Technology, and in the same year, it was approved to be awarded a doctor's degree by Jiangsu Province.

In November 2019, Suzhou University of Science and Technology became the national science and technology innovation alliance unit of local architectural universities.^[13]
