Zhejiang University emblem It was first seen in the draft design scheme of Zhejiang University's school logo published on December 15, 1990 (see Scheme I and Scheme II for details). Through extensive solicitation of opinions from teachers, students, staff and alumni, we are more consistent in our preference for Scheme I, that is, the design draft of the school logo, which is composed of the traditional truth seeking eagle, retains the basic shape of the truth seeking eagle in the school logo of Zhejiang University in the 1920s and 1930s, reflecting the inheritance of history.
On January 22, 1991, the school held a school affairs meeting to review the proofreading scheme. The meeting believed that the two proofreading schemes had their own characteristics in design ideas and forms of expression, and the second scheme had some new ideas in form. After discussion, the school management meeting determined Scheme I as the calibration scheme, and further modified and improved it. On January 31, 1991, the school administration meeting reviewed the revised calibration standard again, and the current calibration standard was formally adopted. On May 11, 2017, the school affairs meeting reviewed and approved the digital refinement processing scheme of the calibration standard. [40]

History of School Songs
On November 19, 1938, in Yishan, Guangxi, President Zhu Kezhen presided over the school affairs meeting. The meeting decided to take "seeking truth" as the motto of Zhejiang University, and decided to invite famous Chinese scholar Ma Yifu to write the lyrics of the school song. The lyrics written by Ma Yifu, because they quoted many classical words, used classical Chinese, not very popular, and sometimes difficult to read. President Zhu once considered rewriting the lyrics, but he felt that although the lyrics written by Ma Lao were difficult in terms of literature and theory, they had profound meanings, and could reflect the spirit of seeking truth pursued by Zhejiang University. Therefore, the song "Big Don't Be Too Many" was still invited by famous composers Professor Ying Shangneng of the National Central Conservatory of Music at that time composed music, which was officially designated as School Song of Zhejiang University
During the 95th anniversary celebration of Zhejiang University in April 1992 Ningbo University Zhu Zhaoxiang, the 44th graduate of the Civil Engineering Department of Zhejiang University (former head of the choir of Zhejiang University) and Deng Shuang, the 46th graduate of the Foreign Language Department of Zhejiang University, the president, at the suggestion of the old members of the choir of Zhejiang University, translated the lyrics of the school song sentence by sentence into vernacular for easy reading. [45]
Translation of school song
The sea is vast and not complacent, so it can accommodate thousands of rivers.
The world of learning is endless, reaching the end of the world.
The metaphysical is called Tao, and the metaphysical is called Qi.
Rites dominate the differences in the world, and music makes society coexist harmoniously.
Understanding the dialectical unity relationship will make you more intelligent and wise.
There is a national university on the coast of Zhejiang River in southeast China.
Its purpose is to inspire people to seek truth.
Only by persevering and concentrating on teaching can we gradually deepen our understanding of the world.
Do not say that you have grasped the essence of things, nor that you have exhausted the truth.
There is no change without inheritance and no tradition without innovation.
How to reform and innovate? Practice and exploration to be the first.
You young talents should understand these important principles.
We should devote ourselves to learning so as to achieve wisdom and insight.
We have humanities, science, agriculture and technology.
It is necessary to master the source and practice of knowledge.
Like gold in a furnace, forge great achievements.
Only by relying on the people can we achieve real success. Don't be bound by sectarian portals.
We will work hard to revitalize the motherland and make people all over the world live in harmony. [45]
Lyrics of School Song of Zhejiang University: Mr. Ma Yifu
A New Interpretation of School Songs
Big - never complacent, like the sea containing rivers,
Learning - vast and boundless, with a broad mind to observe the sky and the earth.
The metaphysical person in the heaven and earth is praised, and the physical person in the lower part is an instrument,
In human society, there are systems governing differences, and art promotes harmony.
Only when we understand that they are unified objects can knowledge have insight.
There is one of the best universities in China,
She used to seek fame, which in essence inspired the university to seek truth.
Truth needs constant exploration and teaching to get a glimpse of the economy,
Therefore, Mo Yan has reached the truth of things, let alone exhausted the truth.
There is no innovation that does not need inheritance, and there is no old practice that cannot be innovated,
How to reform and innovate? Only walking in the front of the people dare to explore and practice.
You young talents should know this scientific path.
Only by concentrating on learning can we have profound thoughts and clear understanding.
We have humanities, science, agriculture and technology,
Be good at analyzing and synthesizing, and grasp the source and trend of knowledge.
Real gold will flash in the furnace, and great achievements will be produced in the process of tempering,
We must not stick to the sectarian gate, and we will find a way to reach the masses of the people,
We worked hard to revitalize our motherland and make all countries in the world aspire to peaceful coexistence. [45]
The School Song of Zhejiang University: Mr. Ying Shangneng
School song lyrics
Great not from many rivers, but learning endless in heaven and earth
Form refers to Tao, form refers to utensil, ceremony refers to different subjects, music refers to harmony
If you know it's the same, you should listen to Si Cong
State owned Chengdu is on the coast of Zhejiang, seeking truth and truth
Learning from Kan and teaching began to see that there was no time to talk about the economy, and it was true that there was no time to talk about it
The old bandits are old because they are old. Why are they new
It's not surprising that the fashionable scholars still have their own knowledge
Nian Zai, a scholar of classics, a thinker of wisdom, a scholar of quality, a farmer, and a worker
And the overall coherence of knowledge, knowledge, and finality, is as good as the melting of gold
Shang Heng is generous in the wild and generous in the patriarchal tree [45]
School Song of Zhejiang University
  • School motto: Seeking truth and innovation
  • Core words of common values: Diligence in learning and virtue cultivation
  • Zhejiang University Spirit: Haina River Reveals the True, Benevolent and Benevolent People Built China
The motto of Zhejiang University - "Seeking Truth and Innovation" can be traced back to the predecessor of Zhejiang University, Qiushi Academy.
Since its establishment, Qiushi Academy has advocated "learning from facts, preserving right and eliminating wrong". In addition, the school spirit of "seeking truth" has gradually formed among teachers and students, which is characterized by "upholding their friendship, not seeking their benefits, being clear about their morality, not considering their merits", and "doing their own duties". This school spirit has continued to the future of Zhejiang University.
During the Anti Japanese War, Zhejiang University moved westward to run a school in exile, suffering hardships and separation from life and death, which gave President Zhu Kezhen a deeper understanding of "seeking truth".
On November 1, 1938, Zhu Kezhen made a speech "Wang Yangming and the Model of College Students" at the opening ceremony of Yishan, Guangxi. In his speech, he inspired the teachers and students of Zhejiang University to forge ahead in the face of difficulties with Wang Yangming's spirit of seeking truth, fearing no danger, working hard and serving the country with loyalty, and proposed to take "seeking truth" as the school motto in order to better inherit and carry forward the fine tradition of "seeking truth" and implement the essence of scholarly research.
On November 19, 1938, the school council formally approved Zhu Kezhen's proposal.
As for the meaning of "seeking truth", Zhu Kezhen has made many expositions. In his speech "Seeking Truth and Sacrifice Spirit", he said: "Seeking truth is not limited to immersing oneself in reading or doing experiments in the laboratory. The golden mean is the best way to seek truth, which is" erudite, interrogative, deliberate, discerning, and committed. ’It is not enough to be erudite and interrogated. We must think carefully, be creative, and have a single eye to study right and wrong. We can not only know the right and wrong, gain and loss, but also do our best to do it. Zhuge Wuhou said, "I will work hard and die after death", which is a failure and a bluntness. It is hard to see. " The best example is Bruno, Galileo, Kepler, Newton, Darwin, Huxley and other people in the history of science who "put out all kinds of difficulties to risk a hundred deaths in order to know". There are also many Chinese sages with the spirit of seeking truth, and Dr. Sun Yat sen is one of them. Dr. Sun Yat sen not only advocated revolution but also carried out it. This revolutionary spirit stems from the spirit of seeking truth.
Here, Zhu Kezhen has greatly expanded and deepened the meaning of "seeking truth". The spirit of seeking truth he advocated is the spirit of science, sacrifice, revolution, struggle and innovation.
Later, Zhu Kezhen more clearly expounded the method and path of "seeking truth" in his article "Scientific Methods and Spirit". He said: "What is the goal of modern science? It is to seek truth. Scientific methods can be changed at any time and anywhere. This scientific goal, the pursuit of truth, is also the spirit of science, will never change. ... According to our ideal, the attitude that scientists should adopt should be:. In case of adversity, he is indomitable, not afraid of strong resistance, and only asks right and wrong, regardless of interests. (2) Be open-minded, not arbitrary, not overbearing. (3) Concentrate and be consistent, seek truth from facts, do not moan without illness, and be strict and orderly. "
Zhu Kezhen's statements, especially his three attitudes that scientists should adopt, are not only followed by thousands of "truth seeking" students, but also praised by scientists all the time.
Since the founding of New China, especially since the reform and opening up, the successive leaders of Zhejiang University, on the basis of inheriting and carrying forward the spirit of seeking truth, have particularly emphasized the pioneering and innovative spirit under the new historical conditions. Since then, Zhejiang University has gradually formed a fine school spirit of "seeking truth from facts, being rigorous and practical, enterprising, pioneering and innovative".
On May 5, 1988, the school affairs meeting presided over by President Lu Yongxiang decided to take "seeking truth and innovation" as the motto of Zhejiang University in the new era. This is the correct decision made by Zhejiang University in order to adapt to the rapid development of modern science and technology and social needs, and it is the development of the spirit of seeking truth.
In his speech on the 95th anniversary of the founding of the university in 1992, Lu Yongxiang said: "The spirit of innovation (that is, creation), strictly speaking, has been included in the spirit of seeking truth... But people often understand seeking truth as seeking truth, focusing on the understanding and application of existing knowledge, objective analysis and grasp of the status quo, without special emphasis on creation and innovation. Innovation is the common feature of many outstanding scientists and talents in history. In order to run Zhejiang University with Chinese characteristics and its own characteristics and train a large number of socialist construction talents and successors with the spirit of dedication, realism, innovation and cooperation, we must attach great importance to the promotion of the spirit of innovation, form a good sense of community, adhere to the correct socialist direction and principles, adhere to opening up, reform and innovation. Innovation is the requirement of the times and the law of the development of science, technology and education. To keep pace with the times and constantly make progress and development, our school must emphasize the development of creativity and cultivate the spirit of seeking truth and innovation on the basis of inheriting and carrying forward the spirit of seeking truth. "
Lu Yongxiang's words are not only an answer to the school motto of "seeking truth and innovation", but also an interpretation of "seeking truth and innovation".
In his speech entitled "Seize the Opportunity, Meet the Challenge, and Become First Class" at the teaching work conference of Zhejiang University in 1995, Pan Yunhe proposed a new talent training model that pays equal attention to knowledge, ability, and quality, making the method and path of "seeking truth and innovation" more specific and clear. The knowledge mentioned here by President Pan includes professional knowledge and cross knowledge; Ability includes expression ability, foreign language ability, computer ability, innovation ability, writing ability, organization ability, imagination ability, hands-on ability, etc; Quality includes ideological quality, moral quality and cultural quality.
"Seeking truth and innovation" is the code of conduct and goal of students seeking truth in the new era.
It can be said that "seeking truth" has a long history, and "seeking truth and innovation" has a bright future! [44]
