Kaifeng Gongyuan
From 1903 to 1904, China's last two examinations were held in Henan Gongyuan, where the imperial examination system, which lasted for more than 1300 years, came to an end.
In 1905, Henan Normal School (later renamed Kaifeng Teachers College) was established in Qianyingmen, Kaifeng.
In August 1912, Zhang Zhenfang, the governor of Henan, proposed that the Henan Provisional Parliament should establish "Henan Preparatory School for Studying in Europe and America" and choose "Henan Gongyuan" to the south of Kaifeng Tower as the school site.throughChen ShantongRecommend Lin Boxiang as the principal.[151]

On March 3, 1923, on the basis of Henan Preparatory School for Studying in Europe and the United States, Zhongzhou University was rebuilt, and the opening ceremony was held.
In June 1927, Henan Public School of Law and Politics and Henan Provincial Agricultural School were merged into Zhongzhou University, preparing to establish "National Kaifeng Sun Yat sen University", with Xu Qian as president.After merging, the Law School became the Law Department of Henan University, and the Agriculture School became the Agriculture Department of Henan University.The law department has the law department, the political department and the economic department, and the agriculture department has the agronomy department and the forest department.[162]In July 1927, the Henan Provincial Government Assembly decided to change the name of "National Kaifeng Sun Yat sen University" to "Henan Provincial Sun Yat sen University", and Zhang Honglie was the president.[160]

In 1938, the Animal Husbandry Department of Henan University, Northwest Agricultural College and Northwest Associated University Agricultural College established the National Northwest Agricultural College.
In 1942, the provincial Henan University was changed into the national Henan University, and Yu Youren, an educator, wrote the name of the university.
In May 1944, when the Japanese invaders invaded Henan University, the Tantou Massacre occurred, killing more than ten teachers and students.
In 1945,Counter-Japanese WarAfter victory, Japan announced its surrender, and Henan University moved back to Kaifeng at the end of December.[53]
In 1946, an engineering college was set up, and the Department of Civil Engineering and the Department of Mechanical Engineering were established.Later, the National Yellow River Basin Water Conservancy Engineering College was merged to establish the Department of Water Conservancy Engineering of Heda Institute of Technology.[162]

In October 1948, Kaifeng was liberated. Zhongyuan University had more than 2000 teachers and students. On August 6, 1953, the Ministry of Education and the Cultural and Educational Commission of the Government Council decided that Henan University andPingyuan Normal UniversityThe merger is collectively known as Henan Normal University, running schools in Kaifeng and Xinxiang, respectively known as the First Institute and the Second Institute.

On August 16, 1955, the CPC Henan Provincial Committee adjusted Henan Normal University and decided to focus liberal arts in Kaifeng and science in Xinxiang.
In November 1956, the first college of Henan Normal University was renamed Kaifeng Normal University, and the second college was renamed Xinxiang Normal University (nowHenan Normal University）。Kaifeng Normal University has four departments of Chinese, history, geography and foreign languages, as well as educational teaching and research sections.
In 1959, Kaifeng Teachers' College was incorporated into Kaifeng Teachers' College, adding four departments of physics, chemistry, mathematics and biology, and later adding the Department of Politics and Education and the Department of Physical Education.
In 1962, the Department of Biology was adjusted to Xinxiang Normal University.In the same year, Henan Art Institute and Henan Physical Education Institute in Zhengzhou were merged into Kaifeng Normal University.[162]Zhengzhou UniversityThe Department of Geography was merged into the Department of Geography.So far, the school has 10 departments of Chinese, history, politics and education, geography, foreign languages, mathematics, physics, chemistry, sports and art.
In 1975, Kaifeng Normal University founded Xinyang Branch, and in 1978, it became an independentxinyang normal university 。
In 1979, the school changed its name to Henan Normal University and added the Department of Education.
In May 1984, Henan Normal University restored the name of Henan University and added chemical, economic, management, biology, civil engineering, computer and other majors.[162]

On October 17, 2008, the People's Government of Henan Province and the Ministry of Education signed an agreement on the joint construction of Henan University by provinces and ministries, and Henan University officially entered the ranks of the joint construction of universities by provinces and ministries.

Scientific research achievements
In 2020, the university will take the lead in undertaking one national key research and development project, with the central financial support of 19.2 million yuan;96 projects supported by the National Natural Science Foundation of China, with direct funds of 42.41 million yuan;It was approved to receive 5 major science and technology projects in Henan Province, with a funding of 12.6 million yuan;Won one second prize of National Science and Technology Progress Award, one first prize of Henan Science and Technology Award, four second prizes, and five third grade awards;972 papers were included in SCI, including 174 papers from Division 1/Top1, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and 429 papers from Division 2.Cell and Nature achieved the first breakthrough;188 authorized invention patents.[86]
In 2022, the university's "light induced signal regulated soybean symbiotic nodulation mechanism" was included in the list of "top ten scientific and technological advances in Chinese colleges and universities" in 2021.[78]
In September 2022,The School of Chemistry of Shandong Agricultural University has cooperated with Fudan University and Henan University in research and proposed a three function optimization strategy for water system zinc ion batteries based on the development of multi acid cluster materials. The related achievements were published in the international authoritative journal Advanced Energy Materials in the energy field》On[116]。

Basic information
The library of Henan University was founded in 1912 as the library of Henan Preparatory School for Studying in Europe and America.Later, with the development and growth of the school, it changed its name to Zhongzhou University (1923), Henan Sun Yat sen University (1927), Henan Provincial University (1930), National Henan University (1942), Henan University (1949), Henan Normal University (1953), Kaifeng Normal University (1956), Henan Normal University (1979) Library, etc.In May 1984, the name of Henan University Library was restored.The library has been successively rated as one of the top ten advanced units in the national "reading activities for all", the national advanced university library, the advanced unit in the application of automation technology in colleges and universities in Henan Province, the advanced unit in the "reading of cultural classics and building a scholarly campus" in colleges and universities in Henan Province, the advanced collective of Kaifeng City as a teacher, and the advanced collective of Kaifeng City's education work.

Collection Features
Henan has rich local historical records;Large ancient books series are basically complete;The rare and isolated manuscripts and banknotes are quite unique. For example, the engraved version of the General Annals of Henan in Chenghua of the Ming Dynasty and the General Annals of Henan in Jiajing of the Ming Dynasty are the only ones in the mainland. The manuscripts of Tokyo Annals, Bianliang Flood Chronicles, and Yunhui Bookstore Notes are very precious.During the Anti Japanese War, the wandering library provided the borrowing service of Daocang and other documents for Joseph Needham, the author of the History of Ancient Chinese Science and Technology and a member of the British Royal Society, in the suburbs of Baoji.There are 5203 volumes including 14329 kinds of classical literature, such as Siku Quanshu, Renewal of Siku Quanshu, Siku Quanshu Kemu Series, Siku Banned and Destroyed Books Series, and Siku Uncollected Books Series.
The library not only collects a large number of paper documents, but also is carrying out the research and construction work of KALIS project "Song Dynasty Document Database".In addition to maintaining the effective guarantee of professional literature such as Chinese classical philology, Chinese modern and contemporary literature, English language and literature, and Chinese ancient history, the library has gradually formed a trend of focusing on literature collection of regional economics, human geography, condensed matter physics, polymer chemistry and physics, and botany, strengthening the collection of science and engineering literature.It has basically formed a complete literature collection system in which paper documents and electronic documents coexist with equal emphasis on literature and science.

The library of Henan University has loaded 20 full text databases such as "Chinese Academic Journals", "Wipe Science and Technology Journals", "Wanfang Master's Dissertations", "Digital E-books", and "People's Congress Photocopies";Integrating the bibliographic data and reader data resources of the original three school libraries, and realizing the loan, return and reading of books and periodicals and data resources in the three school districts;Self built "Chinese Bibliographic Literature Database", "Chinese Newspapers and Periodicals Literature Database", "Ancient Books Bibliographic Literature Database" and "English Bibliographic Literature Database".

At about 23:20 on May 2, 2024, the auditorium of Minglun Campus of Henan University was under repair（Auditorium at the former site of Henan University's Preparatory School for Studying in Europe and America）Fire is found.The fire was put out with no casualties after the fire department tried its best to put it out[168]。The scene aerial pictures show that the roof of the auditorium has basically collapsed after the fire, and the burned building is scorched black[169]。
On May 3, 2024, Henan University reported the situation of the auditorium, saying that it apologized for the fire in the auditorium, and relevant departments have intervened in the investigation[168]。On the morning of May 3, the staff of Henan Provincial Cultural Relics Bureau said that relevant leaders had gone to Henan University to investigate the matter[170]。
Henan University said that there were no construction personnel in the auditorium when the fire broke out, and it was preliminarily speculated that the cause of the fire might be related to the aging of the circuit during the repair process.[171]
