May 20, 1980State Council of the PRCIt is approved to establish Guilin Institute of Electronic Technology on the basis of Guilin Radio School, which is subordinate to the Fourth Machinery Department and is led by the Fourth Machinery Department and Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, with the Fourth Machinery Department as the main body[7]。
In January 1981, the Fourth Machinery Department determined that the political level of the college was at the prefecture (division) level.In August, the school and the Liuyi First Factory set up their own party committees.On August 30, it was determined that the school and factory should be separated.In December 1982, the affiliated factory - Electronic Instrument Factory was established[7]。
In March 1983, the college was directly affiliated to the formerMinistry of Electronics IndustryAdministration[8]。In July 1984, the former Lijiang Children's Middle School was officially transferred to the collegeGuilin Education BureauApproved and named as "High School Affiliated to Guilin Institute of Electronic Technology"[8]。On July 16, the Ministry of Education approved the College as the third batch of universities to award bachelor's degrees nationwide.In December 1985, the college andXidianJoint cultivation of master students[8]。

In January 1995, the university was listed by the Ministry of Education as one of the first universities to carry out undergraduate teaching qualification evaluation.From 1995 to 1997, the school took teaching evaluation as the core of its work, and made every effort to carry out the work of welcoming evaluation and promoting construction in accordance with the work policy of "promoting construction by evaluation, promoting reform by evaluation, combining evaluation with construction, and focusing on construction"[53]。
Guilin University of Electronic Science and Technology (2006)
On March 1, 2006, the college was renamed Guilin University of Electronic Science and Technology[54]。In March 2008, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and the People's Government of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region signed an agreement on the joint construction of Guilin University of Electronic Science and Technology, which was listed as a key university in Guangxi[2]。
In March 2010, after 7 years of hard construction, Huajiang Campus achieved fruitful results and completed 2042 mu of land acquisition;In September, after more than two years of construction and development, 402 mu of land was requisitioned, 550 mu of campus area, and about 200000 square meters of school buildings were put into use[53]。
In 2011, the school completed the "12th Five Year Plan" development plan, which defined the development goals of the school in the next five years;In October of the same year, it was approved as an excellent engineer training program unit[53]。
The Graduate School was established in December 2012 to promote the rapid development of degree and graduate education.In July 2013, it was awarded the doctor's degree, and three first level disciplines of information and communication engineering, mechanical engineering, and instrument science and technology were approved as authorized disciplines for the doctor's degree[53]。
In March 2023, Guilin University of Electronic Science and Technology announced the establishment of the Metauniverse Research Institute, which aims to integrate and coordinate the development of scientific research forces inside and outside the university through the exploration of the metauniverse, an international innovation field[22]。
