In February of the 17th year of the Republic of China (1928), the National Fourth Sun Yat sen University was changed into the National Jiangsu University;In May of the same year, it was renamedNational Central University。
In 1949, National Central University was renamed National Nanjing University.[5]

In the 10th year of the Republic of China (1921),Jinling UniversityEstablished with Industrial Chemistry Section.[5]

In 1952, the Department of Civil Engineering, the Department of Machinery, the Department of Chemical Engineering, the Department of Electrical Engineering, the Department of Food Industry of Nanjing University and Jinling University, as well as some departments and institutions of three other universities, merged to form Nanjing Institute of Technology, which has a Department of Chemical Engineering.
In August 1958, the Department of Chemical Engineering of Nanjing Institute of Technology was separated from the school and established Nanjing Institute of Chemical Engineering separately.
In April 1995, Nanjing Institute of Chemical Technology was renamed Nanjing University of Chemical Technology.[5]

In the 4th year of the Republic of China (1915), the Engineering Division of Shanghai Tongji Medical and Engineering School was established.
In the 11th year of the Republic of China (1922), it was changed into a secondary mechanical department attached to Tongji University.
In the 15th year of the Republic of China (1926), it was changed into a secondary pilot school attached to Tongji University.
In the 22nd year of the Republic of China (1933), it was changed into a senior vocational school attached to National Tongji University, with two departments of civil engineering and machinery.
In the 24th year of the Republic of China (1935), it was changed into a senior industrial vocational school attached to National Tongji University.
In November 1950, it was renamed Tongji Advanced Industrial School of the Ministry of Industry of East China.
In the autumn of 1951, the school moved from Shanghai to Nanjing.
In 1953, the Civil Engineering Department of the former Tongji Senior Industrial School was expanded to Nanjing Construction Engineering School.
In 1980, it was upgraded to Nanjing Institute of Architecture and Engineering, under the leadership of the Ministry of Construction.[6-11]

In February 2001, Nanjing University of Chemical Technology was renamed Nanjing University of Technology;In May of the same year, the former Nanjing University of Technology merged with Nanjing Institute of Architecture and Engineering to form the new Nanjing University of Technology.[12-13]
In June 2010, the school was selected into the first batch of the Ministry of Education“Outstanding Engineer Education and Training Plan”Pilot universities;[14]In October of the same year, it was selected as a pilot university for comprehensive reform of professional degree graduate education;[15]In November, it became a national intellectual property training (Jiangsu) base;[16]In the same year, the university was selected as a national "featured key discipline project" construction university.[17]
In July 2012,Ministry of Housing and Urban Rural DevelopmentNanjing University of Technology was jointly established with Jiangsu Provincial People's Government to support its discipline construction of civil engineering and architecture.
In January 2013, the university was selected into the national undergraduate innovation and entrepreneurship training program;In May of the same year, it was selected into the innovation capability improvement plan of colleges and universities (2011 plan).[18]

On November 30, 2023, the 2023 China Safety Emergency Industry Conference was held at the Qiandeng Lake, Nanhai, Foshan. As of March 2024, the university's scientific research projects and achievements have won more than 400 awards at all levels, including two second prizes of the National Technological Invention Award, three second prizes of the National Science and Technology Progress Award, one second prize of the National Natural Science Award, seven Chinese Patent Awards, and two of the Ministry of Education's "Top Ten Scientific and Technological Progress of Chinese Universities".One person won the National Innovation Competition Medal, two people won the National Innovation Competition Medal, and seven people won the Science and Technology Award of the Ho Leung Ho Lee Foundation.[1]
In 2020, the university will receive 580 million yuan for scientific research, and publish 1493 high-level academic papers, including 7 in Nature;104 National Natural Science Foundation of China (including 3 key projects and 2 excellent youth projects), 1 national key R&D project and 8 research projects were approved;11 national social science funds, including 2 key projects, were selected into the National Library of Philosophy and Social Sciences;It has won 21 provincial and ministerial awards, including 1 first prize of Jiangsu Province Science and Technology Award, 3 first prizes of Sinopec Federation Science and Technology Award, and 2 China Patent Awards.It has been approved as one special basic research project of cutting-edge leading technology in Jiangsu Province, two provincial outstanding youth projects and four provincial excellent youth projects.[35]
