Founded in September 1956, Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine is one of the first Chinese medicine colleges and universities established in China. In January 1959, the earliest specialized museum of medical history in China, the Museum of Medical History of the Chinese Medical Association (founded in 1938), was incorporated into Shanghai Institute of Traditional Chinese Medicine and renamed as the Museum of Medical History of Shanghai Institute of Traditional Chinese Medicine (renamed as the Museum of Medical History of Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine along with the school in December 1993; established in 2003 Shanghai Museum of Traditional Chinese Medicine Later, the system of medical history museum will be preserved).
