One year old girl's buttocks were corroded when she fell down and sat on unknown liquid

China News Network, Chongqing, February 11 (Han Lu, Liu Hanxue Xiao) 1-year-old and 9-month old Xiao Man accidentally fell on a "wet" ground when running outside. Soon, Xiaoman's buttocks began to turn red, and even a piece of skin turned black. His family rushed him to the Children's Hospital affiliated to Chongqing Medical University for treatment.

Xiaoman's parents told reporters that her grandmother took her to play outside the community, and Xiaoman fell backwards and fell to the ground while running. Grandma hurried to pick her up, only to find that the place where Xiaoman fell was "wet". Because she only wet her pants a little, Grandma didn't care too much. She was going back to change a pair of pants for Xiaoman.

Ten minutes later, when Grandma was changing Xiaoman's pants, she found that there were signs of redness and swelling on the buttocks where she touched the wet pants, and a piece of skin turned black. Grandma thought it was dirty, so she washed Xiaoman several times with washing powder and soap. The result was that instead of washing away the black spots, it made Xiaoman's buttocks even more red and swollen.

Later, Xiaoman was sent to the Children's Hospital of Chongqing Medical University, and was admitted to the burn and plastic surgery department after emergency treatment.

According to Yuan Xingang, the chief doctor of the burn and plastic surgery department, after inspection, Xiaoman's buttocks and perineum were corroded by unknown substances, the wound was dry, red and swollen, and the skin was rough. Scattered insect erosion like skin defects were seen, including three black spots about 3x2cm in size, and 3% of secondary corrosion injuries.

The doctor immediately gave Xiaoman a series of first aid measures such as wound debridement, fluid replacement and infection prevention. "The 'liquid' on the ground when Xiaoman fell may be a strong acid and alkali with corrosive effect, but the specific reason is unknown. Hydrochloric acid, nitric acid, caustic soda, potassium permanganate, etc. are all within the scope of consideration." Yuan Xingang said that because the amount of contact is relatively small, and there is also a layer of pants between them, Xiaoman can be discharged after treatment.

"Strong acid and strong alkali corrosion may lead to very serious consequences." Doctor Yuan Xingang reminded that the most common corrosive things at home are caustic soda and potassium permanganate. Clinically, parents often receive cases of children mistakenly drinking caustic soda in beverage bottles.

"Caustic soda can cause serious corrosion of children's digestive tract, and some children may even lose their lives." Doctor Yuan Xingang said that parents should not put corrosive substances within the reach of children at home, and should try to take good care of children in public areas, so that children should not be exposed to unknown liquids at will.
